I did a broiled 5 pounder at Mastros in Beverly Hills last week, I almost felt like I could have done 2, but why get piggy, so to speak, what's been your biggest bug to date?

Just over six pounds. Stuffed with lobster and baked. The six pounds was before it was stuffed.

38lbs!---of course that was back in the sixties and i had a lot of help eating it. My best friends dad got it from a lobster,am buddy of his.--oh--and the really big one were NOT tougher---least not when they are pit steamed.:) Doubt that i will ever see one like that again--and if i did i don't think i would eat it. I assume that like Largemouth bass---the bigger ones have a LOT more babies and more lobster babies is a GOOD thing!

(Two pounds) I wanted to but time was limited, my daughter went to the HBO pary after the Emmys with John Heard, Home Alone, Big, among many roles. Has been a close friend since age 10. Many things to do with getting Kelliann ready for her big night, she was on cloud 9! The worst part was having to ride around Beverly Hills in the new Rolls Royce Limo that the Beverly Wilshire provides for it's guests, what a drag!

Those Rolls Royce Limos look like school busses. Guess they're nicer looking out. Sorry you didn't have a good time. Did you notice the statues in the middle of Rodeo Drive? Kudos to your daughter and John Heard!

Kudos to your daughter and John Heard! The fun part about the Rolls is all the tourists thing it's yours, playing the roll is fun. My wife and daughter qualify as Rodeo Drive Docents. Mar you need to chow at Jack and Jills, really eclectic menu, great breakfast, County Fried Steak, 3 eggs, toast, $11.75. It's just a few doors down from Nate N'Al's, which was sucky when we ate there one morning.

The problem with whole lobster is the Net Weight of actual meat is only about 25-30% of the total weight.

Michael Hoffman And that's a problem? When you pay by the pound , 60-65% of your money goes to buy exoskeleton!

... which is used to make stock, make soup, make compound butter, and to help flavor foods. Good stuff. Worth the money.

You asked.....so...........back in "the Good Ole Days" of the 60's, growing up on Cape Cod, you could get BIG lobsters! Meat was a bit tougher, but still good and economical. My mother would buy 8-20 lb lobsters!(depending on the # of folks) Now, here's the squeamish part. To Cook Them, she had to use a a turkey cooker. The suckers were so big that they wouldn't fit, so, she'd take a hatchet (!) to cut the claws off near the body, while still live, to fit them in the roaster. Not sure that there are any left of that size
