Where Are All the California Reviews?

New member, registered today. I clicked on "California"
and "All Restaurants" and it only shows 41 reviews.
Am I doing this right?

California has over 10% of the population of the entire
United States. I would have expected _lots_ more reviews.

How long has roadfood.com been around?

    Cocinero,
First and most importantly, WELCOME TO ROADFOOD!
41 Ca. reviews? I do think you might be off someplace. I'm sure some of our more able members will be coming along soon to help you. This is a good site for folks who enjoy the finer things in life, roadfood! Sounds like you did the right things, I'll take a look.
FOREMOST, WELCOME, SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE FELLOWSHIP.

Cocinero, as a Southern California resident, I would certainly appreciate more California coverage. Given that the powers that be (the Sterns) are East Coast residents, and they're responsible for most of the site's reviews, there's a logistic barrier. If you're a Calfornia resident, I'm sure everybody would appreciate if you share your thoughts on local restaurants by submitting reviews to Roadfood.com. Are there restaurants you think deserve mention on Roadfood?

This is probably the best "first post" I have ever read here.

    My thoughts exactly, Joshua.....

There are a lot of threads in various Forums that contain many references to SoCal Food locations. Try the search machine and enter California or SoCal to get a run of the locations of the posts. You are correct that the logistics of the site are tipped towards the NorthEast, but that is changing as more and more folks take the time to write up formal reviews, as opposed to doing an informal recommendation in the context of a thread or Trip Report.

Welcome to Roadfood, both of you.

I'd suggest you listen to Al(the mayor). He is a patient and level headed man who moves things along. Cocinero, I don't believe anyone yet has responded to your question,"how long has roadfood.com been around". Well I can't answer your question with any preciseness. I've been a casual looker for the past few years, listed on my homepage, enjoyed the restaurant reviews. A few months ago I decided to jump in with both feet so to speak. I've found the folks to be a joy to visit with. Hey, been a couple times showing rough edges,ME, and others I thought, but all is GOOD!

I think the Roadfood website has been around since the year 2000. I know though, that the Sterns have been traveling and writing about Roadfood much longer than that. A buddy of mine put me on to their books and the site in 2003 and I've loved it ever since! I've been writing reviews for the past 6 months(?) I believe and Bruce and Sue have been very helpful and kind to me. If you have a camera and know of some places in CA that are Roadfood, click away! I spent 3 months driving from La Jolla ro Eureka and ate in a lot of wonderful places thta I would consider Roadfood. Too bad it was in 2001 and didn't know about the site then. Welcome to Roadfood!!

    Roux,

You, I and Xannie have to hold down the fort here. The same of New Mexico can not be said of California. 1.9 million people = .6 % of nation's population. (And God bless us and this beautiful state for that!) Unfortunately, I am not into the 21st century yet. The only digital camera I own is a Fisher Price that my kids play with. Hardly the kind that can accopany you when doing a restaurant review.

Yeah, at home! I'm too smart to do it for a living. :)
Bad hours, bad days, long hours. In our kitchen I can
watch the Food Network while I cook. My family has a
long tradition of great southern cooks. (I'm transplanted.)
Yesterday I cooked for hours making chicken enchiladas,
tomatillo sauce, beans and rice (both kicked up), salad,
and, some "cold beverages". Tomorrow we might go to a
local taqueria. There are _lots_ of them around here.
They're authentic, the food is great -- and cheap.

We're currently on a Japanese restaurant blitz since
several new ones recently opened near us. We got out
the yellow pages restaurant section and lookd it up.
There are 31 Japanese restaurants within a 15 minute drive
of home. We've been to about a third of them. So many
    restaurants, so little time.

We like to cook, go out to restaurants, and travel.
    Maybe I'll take some pictures.

    concinero,
As one of the California contingent----welcome to Roadfood. I agree, there has been a lack of California reviews. We can change it, though. I just published my first one and now that I've done it "The Gaffey Street Diner" in San Pedro----I plan on doing many more. Looking for your input too---and reviews. There is a lot of good places here----we just have to do them.

    Tam,
We're on the same page. Appears our new friend, Cocinero, is getting good help. Our son gave us a digital camera couple years ago, haven't touched it, looks like a little monster to me. After enjoying the many good foodie photos, I'm considering taking on the monster and doing a few pics.
Yes, you, I and Xannie and NYNM part time have an obligation to uphold the tradition of the LAND OF ENCHANTMENT, New Mexico.
    Bless all,
    Roux

I'm going to have to get the SAND out of my camera (we just had two days of wind and sand storms) and review a great eatery in Cathedral City called Red Tomato/House of Lamb. Last night, we had a delicious pizza of feta, mozzarella, fresh tomatoes, kalamata olives and basil. Then lamb shanks with tons of garlic in the sauce, basmati rice pilaf, fresh vegetables and salad with house-made roquefort dressing.
