Go to Rib Crib BBQ  in Joplin, MO for good BBQ.  Go to Aunt Martha's for breakfast, lunch or dinner or Buckingham's in Springfield, MO  at Exit 80 off I 44  for good road food.  Go to The Madison St. Grill in Lebanon, MO for fresh seafood and steaks.  Trophy Room at The Old Kinderhook Resort and Golf Club is open to the public after 4 PM for outstanding fresh seafood and steaks.  Bentley's at Lake Ozark, MO is open for dinner serving fresh seafood and steaks in a casual atmosphere.  Little Rizzo's is a nice Italian place in Osage Beach, MO open for lunch and dinner.  J Bruner's is casual fine dining for dinner in Osage Beach, MO serving fresh seafood and steaks.  Go to Black Water Jack's for cold drinks and good food.  You will think you are on the Gulf Coast.  Go to On The Rise for outstanding breakfast and lunch.  It's a French style bistro with great wood fired dishes.

Try Cafe on the Route in Baxter Springs, Kansas.
        the url: www.thelittlebrickinn.com"
The Cafe in within the hotel. Baxter Springs is just off of I-40.
This place was featured on Diners, Drive Inns and Dives. My favorite is the fried cheesecake covered with chocolate or strawberry toppings.
The menu is contains selections ranging from basic to sublime and it's all priced right.

When at The Lake of the Ozarks, try Camp Bagnell.  Excellent catfish and steaks, and a true roadhouse.  We rarely miss an opportunity to go there when in the area.

Another place at the Lake, although pricey, is JB Hooks.  Excellent view of the lake while dining.  Meals are quite good, also.

If you stop in Lebanon, MO, downtown, on your way to the Lake,  there is a little cafe called the Lunchbox.  Food's basically just good burgers, but a nice small town cafe atmosphere.  I've also had good pie there.

I second the rec for Cafe on the Route. The food and prices are great and Route 66 through Kansas is a real treat. http://www.kansastravel.org/cafeontheroute.htm

                Very good chicked fry!

Everything I have heard about Cafe on the Route has been very positive. It should not be passed up. I haven't been there yet.

A Slice of Pie in Rolla, MO
I realize Rolla Mo is out of the way. But, there is great pie there. It is worth a major detour. I got this tip from buffetbuster on these forums. Thanks buffetbuster!

Rolla is a bit far from LO to travel for a piece of pie.

Bill this is a fantastic pie place! Only 71 miles from Osage Beach to Rolla It is well worth the drive.
It is only 290 miles from Tulsa. How far will you drive for great road food?

OK, 150 miles, because she has to come back too.
That pie does look good though....

If you are already at Lake of the Ozarks, Rolla is only about an hour drive or so.  Another vote for Slice of Pie.     And the BBQ buffet at Johnny's Hickory Pit is pretty good, too.
