Where can I get some soft serve ice cream mixes?

Hi everyone! My wife and I just purchased an ice cream maker, and we love those soft serve ice cream at McDonnals and other family restaurants. I have been exhaustingly searching all over the net with Google for the vanilla soft serve mix without success. There are a lot of sites that sell six 6 lbs bags per case, and you have to purchase multiple cases. Does anyone know where we can purchase a few 2.3-2.5-pound bags? We are looking for the plain mixes where one only have to add water to the mix, and not one of those mixes that require heavy-cream, raw eggs, etc. Thank you in advance.

Check with your local dairy/milk distributor. They often have the mix for their restaurant customers.

Try Gordan Food Service or Sysco Foods... Probably just about any large wholesale distributor should carry your premix.

Actually, now that I think about it, the mix came in 64oz. "Milk Cartons". Just add to the machine and it does it's thing! (Was Already pre-mixed with whatever)...

Before I retired about 3 years ago, our store (no longer in existence) was able to (and did) special order 3 types of mix for customers from our local dairy (Prairie Farms). They had a high butterfat mix for regular ice cream, a low butterfat mix, and a soft-serve mix (which was basically an ice milk mix that they regularly sold to all the little mom-and-pop soft-serve stands in the area). These were all ready for freezing and we could get them in quart, half-gallon and, if I remember right, a 5 gallon size. You might have some difficulty getting these mixes during the winter when the soft-serve stands are closed, but you should have no difficulty finding them during the summer. You might have to give your LOCAL grocer up to a week to get a special order from their fluid-milk provider, but they probably could get it. I emphasize local (home-owned) stores, since many large chain stores get their fluid-milk products only through their chain warehouse, and most chain warehouses will not allow special-ordering of anything.

Wow! Thanks, everyone, for all of your inputs. I'll give them all a try today. Thank you so much. My wife will be very surprise when I locate some of the soft-serve pre-mixes. Take care.
