I buy Hebrew National 100% all beef Ft longs from costco, Cost me 50 cents each and sell for $2.00 on sub roll. A meal on a bun add sauce and cheese $2.50. My disclaimer is foot long is an advertising saying, Actual size is 8 inches. I also have foot long Sabretts at 1.75 on Hot Dog roll. It's the presentation of product and Illusions that captures the customers eye. Some other people charge more, but it's what the traffic will bear. I sell 5 different dogs, a reg dog, a 1/4 lber, a foot long, a ft long sabrett and a rajun cajun sausage. Later CBB

Smith's Provisions in Erie, Pa., makes a particularly good footlong, which is served at the Pickle Barrel, Carson Street, Southside, Pittsburgh. The Bear

My local Hanaford sometimes has Kayem foot-longs, but not on a regular basis. The question is where do you find the foot-long rolls? Top

In Massachusetts, when the Kayem "foot" longs are at the deli, you can often find the Nissen "foot" long rolls in front of the deli case. They come in a plain poly bag without overprinting except for the computer generated "sell by" date and price, so they are easy to overlook. My advice would to be to ask the clerks at the deli. I think that the "foot" long combo is usually a summer promotion, and that there must be some type of cooperation between Kayem and Nissen, because the dog is no fun without the roll and visa versa.

A Rajun Cajun is a 1/4 lb spicy Sausage made by the Kunzler Co. I sell about 30 a week. For the foot long dog use a sub roll. customers would gladly pay 2.00 for this meal on a bun. (John Holmes died of aids.)

South of Baltimore, Ann's has the best footlongs I've ever had anywhere. They're in a tiny shop on Ritchie Highway. When Marley Station Mall was built Ann refused to sell and the shop is still there. It is always packed but go in anyway. Watching the countergirls (Ann's only hires women to work the counter) is fun in itself. There are usually 8-10 of them in a space not big enough for 5. They never write anything down, always get it right, and you'll be on your way in a couple of minutes. A foot long with everything has chili, onions, and mustard. The shakes are good too. Eat in your car, since the counter only has about 10 seats and people are always leaning over your shoulder to order. Of course, you might like that more than I do! I went there the day I registered for the draft in 1971...only Ann's would do.
