Where is Ozark Fried Chicken?

I grew up in Richardson, Texas in the 60's/70's. My family used to buy a bucket of Ozark Fried Chicken for picnics. The bucket was green with a picture of a southern belle in a bonnet on it. Does anyone know if those restaurants are still around? Their fried chicken was the best.

Ohh, a great memory! We had one of those in Kansas City too. I remember the green bucket and the Southern belle. Next to her picture it said "Miss Alma's Recipe," I think. The Kansas City location was gone by about 1975, I think. If Ozark Fried Chicken is still out there somewhere, I'd also love to know where. (I certainly haven't seen it in the Ozarks.)

We had a number of those here in metro Phoenix as well. Although the chain no longer operates here, I can still see many of their distinctive buildings in the area--an A-frame roof, with two smaller A-frame gables angling out in a Y shape (as seen from above) over the entrance.

I'm wondering if it was a Texas Thang, as I remember one being in Sherman, Texas. I have been looking for the logo (the woman in the pioneer bonnet) to put on my website PatioCulture.net, but to no avail. Here's the "logoless" entry I have made.... "If an occasion warranted a really special fast food treat, we would go to Ozark Fried Chicken. Long gone, this small chain sported green and white striped rooftops on their restaurants which predated the famaliar red and white pattern used by Kentucky Fried Chicken. The branding for this place was probably not too successful since it incorporated a logo of a woman wearing and old-style bonnet...not too groovy for the swinging 60's!" If anyone comes across that logo, please forward it along.

I KNOW THE RECIPE TO OZARK FRIED CHICKEN, BECAUSE WHEN I WAS YOUNG I MADE THE BREADING AT MY DADS RESTAURANT. I USED 2 COFFEE CANS OF FLOWER, 2 COFFEE CANS OF HENNY PENNY PRESSURE FRYER BREADING, 3 OUNCES OF WHITE PEPPER, 10 OUNCES OF MSG, AND 16 OUNCES OF CRACKED PEPPER. THEN I FRIED THE CHICKEN IN A DEEP FRYER AT 325 DEGREES FOR 15 MINUTES
