Where is the best pizza in New York City?

It could be in Little Italy, Brooklyn, wherever. As long as it has a good thick crust and flavorful cheese and sauce I'll try it.

There is much debate on the best pizza in NYC. my preference is Difara's in Midwood, Brooklyn (Ave J and East 15th St.). beyond that, there's all sorts of expensive artisanal pizzas that don't even come close to Dominic Dimarco's (the pizzaola at Difara's and the only person who will ever make your pizza there) soulfull, delicious creations. he uses a mix of 5 different cheeses (fiore di latte, fresh mozzarella, mozzarella di buffala, grand pidana, and parmigiano regiano), San Marzano tomatoes, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, fresh oregano and basil. it's a masterfull pie that has few peers in nyc. and each pie is made by hand by the master himself. it's a shrek from manhattan, but well worth the hassle.

    Hey skipsor,

Check out the pics from ellen4641's NYC/Brooklyn Pizza tour. Her posting is a few below yours on this forum. You'll get some good ides from it. I Haven't been to DiFara's yet. I'm a huge fan of Totonno's in Coney Island. I've never had sauce so fresh or crust so crispy and chewy. Lombardi's on Spring Street makes a pretty decent pie too. I love adrienne's pizzabar on Stone Street in the Financial District. There's a review for it here on Roadfood. For some good slices, check out Ray's on Prince St and Bleecker St Pizza.
Not sure exactly what you're looking for in terms of "thick crust". Could you be more specific? Thick like Chicago style? NY style only with a slightly thicker crust?

I'm used to thick crust pizza but apparently I screwed up talking about thick crust and New York pizza. Sorry about that.

This trip will be our first time in NYC and we're still trying to figure things out as far as food os concerned. Please keep the suggestions coming.

of the list provided above, of which i have tried every single spot (except adrienne's pizza bar), Difara is clearly on top. down from there is Patsy's (uptown east side location only), Totonno's (downhill but still simple and classic). skip UPN (super overpriced and a drag...), skip grimaldi's and johns (meh), and go STRAIGHT to brooklyn and try Difara. you asked where is the best pizza in NYC- it's on Ave J and East 15th in brooklyn. enjoy fb

Totonno's won the best of NY a few years running. In Brooklyn, off of Flatbush - can't remember the street. Great pizza from a early 1900 brick oven.

Nicks Pizza on E. Gun Hill Road.
Great slices, best Sicilians slices I've ever tasted anywhere for the thick crust lover in you, and great calzones. Take the 5 train to E. Gun Hill Road. Get off train and turn left. Can't miss it.
Only thing is it's very far uptown so it maybe a little out of the way if you are centered in Manhattan

If you're in Staten Island, head to Brothers Pizza on Port Richmond Avenue. Get a "Grandma's Slice". Thank me later. :D

I love Ray's on Prince Street. it may not be "the best" but it certainly satisfies my craving for NY pizza when I'm in the the city.

No love for Ray Bari's? I forget the exact address of the place (they have at least a couple of locations in Manhattan, I think), but I always try to swing by there whenever I'm in NYC. Also, if you're really seeking out 'good thick crust', I would suggest L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn: nice, bready, garlicky Sicilian crust with rich sauce.
