Where should I go next? (you decide)- the winner!

I'm done with big trips for the year.

I may consider one more short weekend trip later this fall
The question is where should I go?

I'll let you folks decide.

Here are the options

1- Car trip to Southern Maine
2- Car trip to Vermont
3- Amtrak or Flight to Philly
4- Flight to Philly or Baltimore and then traveling down the Eastern Shore of Maryland

I have always liked the eastern shore of MD. It seems a bit "different."Lots of good history there. I love to drive along Rt. 213, and side roads. Towns like Chestertown, Galena, Sassafras River, Queenstown, etc. I don't usually go as far as Easton. St. Michael's is popular, but a bit touristy. I'll be you alreay know there's good seafood, there!

If you end up picking option 3 or 4, call me. I have a few places for us to visit that you have not been to yet in the Philly area.

Except for the "flight" part I'd pick 4.

On the other hand, considering your coment on how much I like those creations at Primanti's I can think of somewhere else you can go.

If you take option #1 (southern Maine) and are there on a Saturday or Sunday in October, be sure to visit the Seashore Trolley Museum just outside of Kennebunkport: http://www.trolleymuseum.org/

I would  suspect that Phillly would have the most  choices not known to you already, especially if Cheesewit was guiding you.
For example, have you been to Nicks Roast Beef? Bells Market? Had a Schmitter?

Brookquarry: WJ made a point of stating "not necessarily where should I eat." I have some sights and experiences in mind for WJ should he choose to come to the Philadelphia area.
And it goes without saying that I have a list of eateries in my back pocket that we could hit if he so chooses.

    Ok,

looks like it's a three way tie so far between The Eastern Shore, Philly and Southern Maine= 2 for each.

    Cheesewit

It would be great to see you again.  I know I have a couple of must visits in Philly if I head down your way.

    Michael

Unfortunately the only way to fit the  Eastern Shore in a weekend is to Fly- the drive would be just way too brutal, even a drive to just Philly would be too much for me to fit in during a regular weekend.

Yes, I've been to Nicks' Roast Beef- in fact it was part of a roadfood tour that Cheesewit led of the Reading Terminal Market back in 2005. I've never been to Bell's Market or have had a Schmitter..

I already have somewhat of an idea of where I may go in 2012, unfortunately I don't see the Valley of the Sun as part of those plans at least in the near future.

Sorry. The not flying part is my consideration. Everyone else flies. Me, I no longer fly in anything I don't know how to land. Now that I no longer have to fly commercial to make a living I no longer subject my fragile self to commercial airlines.

Glad to hear you've experienced what is the best 'FRENCH DIP" type sandwich I've ever had (disclosure: I have never been to Phillipes in Los Angeles)
For what its worth Bells Market is an awesome East Eurpean supermarket in Northeast
Philly (the Pickle and olive bar alone is worth the trip) a Schmitter, as served by McNallys in Chestnut Hill is a variation of a cheesesteak featuring Salami and Tomatoes as some of the additional ingredients, and served on a kaiser roll. It is very good.

Would love too- but it's just way over my budget

So far it looks like Philly is in the lead ( by one)
I'll leave this open until the end of the month and then decide
Again, this is only if I decide to go which  will depend on lots of things (including budget)

Any of those sound wonderful, but I'd pick 4 on the off chance Terry & I could join you if you get far enough South  on the Eastern Shore. And depending on the timing - we may be moving (noy out of W'burg - just a new house).

I am a sucker for the scenery!

Car trip to Vermont or Maine and watch Mother Nature work her magic, and stop by orchards for fresh cider and cider donuts.

    On a humorous side note:

I read the title to this thread and thought "Is WJ NUTS asking these people 'Where He Should Go'"

    Ok,

    So far
Philly and the Eastern Shore of MD are tied for 3 votes
    Southern Maine has 2
Vermont has 1 (CK said ME or VT but when he mentioned cider donuts - that's more of a VT Thing)
Write in vote- Chicago/Milwaukee has 1-
Write in vote but for 2012- Valley of the Sun has 1

They're all good looking trips!  Because of my job I've pretty much done the four you listed but these were job trips, not sightseeing trips.  best of the bunch I enjoyed most was a trip from CT up thru MA along the coast ( US 1) up thru southern Maine.  Wow, what scenery and beauty.
Whatever you do we'll all enjoy reading about!

I would like you to go to the  Eastern shore.  I would love for you to find some good Roadfood places for me to try.  When we go to the Eastern Shore we go to seafood places  most of the time.  The only Roadfood places that I have ever been to in that area  are  Holly's on Kent Island  and grabbing a sausage from Johnnie Pollacks from a trailer that he has set up at the outlet malls at Queenstown.  Oh yes,  there is also a gas station by Salisbury which has incredible fried  chicken.

    Ok,

I know the Eastern Shore is leading- unfortunately after  realizing that airfares into Baltimore are more expensive than I thought taking into account having to get a rental car, after doing some arithmetic the Eastern Shore is officially out of my budget.

I'll make it to the Eastern Shore, hopefully on a weekend visit next year. Its just that this has to be a "rock bottom" budget trip for me.  I thought flights into Baltimore would be about the same price as flights into Philly, it turns out they weren't at least during the entire month of October and November, factoring in a rental didn't help matters. I won't need a rental for Philly and had I driven to Maine or Vermont it would account for  tank of gas r/t for Maine and probably about a tank and half for VT.

I ended up spending more for a hotel than I expected , since staying in Center City Philly is a must since I'll be carless for the most part. Appears there must be something going on in Philly that weekend since every hotel downtown with the exception of 1 or 2 is $200 or more ( I got a deal for $100 at the Marriott on priceline.)
