What kind of restaurants do you prefer. Fine dining, BBQ, country, Asian, Mexican or what. What part of town. Will you have a car. Thanks.

There are numerous threads on eating out in Lexington. DeSha's is a pleasant American tavern-style place that has good Hot Browns. The Parkette Drive-In is unique, although I have to confess that the food itself didn't do much for me when I visited a few years ago. The Parkette is apparently being featured on DDD tonight. http://www.theparkette.com/ But if you're willing to drive a bit, there are other good choices in nearby Versailles and Midway, as well as Hall's on the River in Winchester, and the Beaumont Inn (and its Old Owl Tavern) in Harrodsburg. http://www.beaumontinn.com/

Our last trip to Lexington was a little over a year ago. I made a point of stopping at Billy's for bbq mutton because I had heard so much about it. I had black eyed peas and okra along with the mutton. My wife ordered a salad and a bowl of burgoo. All was enjoyed.

FYI. The World Equestrian Games start later this week, so there will be a lot of people in town for it. It's a big, big deal. There will be lots of food vendors at the Horse Park just north of Lexington (I-75, exit 121)

The Atomic Cafe in downtown Lexington is great - it's Caribbean themed. Dudley's is also very good as is the Merrick Inn. Sam's Hotdogs downtown is good for a quick bite and has been there forever. If you're looking for seafood try Regatta or The Ketch. I would choose Cheapside Bar and Grill over Desha's - they're both downtown. For a diner experience, Parkette is very nice and nostalgic and you can eat in the diner or be served outside. For a sit down pizza restaraunt, Joe Bolongna's is also good. Columbia's downtown is good for steaks and burgers. Sunshine Bakery downtown also has excellent sandwiches. For Italian, try Guiseppes. For BBQ - Billy's. Andrea

I don't know much about restaurants in Lexington - but if you want pizza, try Joe Balogna's. Expect to wait for a seat. This place is in what used to be a church.

Piggybacking onto Big Dave's request, when my wife and I go to Lexington next year, we'd like to eat someplace where all the students and Wildcat fans eat, something akin to Toomer's Drugs in Auburn or The Grill in Athens. Any recommendations for that kind of place? Big Dave, you share your username with a delightfully vulgar comic by Grant Morrison and Steve Parkhouse from the pages of 2000 AD. I approve!

The best answer to that request would be The Tolly-Ho.

Where to begin the dittos...Ramsey's, Hall's on the River, Billy's, Joe B's, the Parkette. My favorite steak is Malone's on Tates Creek Road north of New Circle Road. Does Columbia still serve "Lamb Fries?" Loudon Square Buffet is a great choice for fried chicken. Another BBQ option is Old Kentucky Smokehouse on New Circle north of Winchester Road. And don't miss Sawyers Bar downtown. Best chili anywhere. My wife loves the taco salads. Main and Broadway. Catacorner to Triangle Park and the Lexington Center / Rupp Arena complex.

I would hit up Stellas KY deli for Saturday or Sunday brunch, excellent local food. Otherwise there are a bunch of great places listed above. Als bar just started doing a brunch and bluegrass buffet on Saturdays. I was just at these places last weekend, I loved both meals.

We ate at Wallace Station on our way "Down yonder" and it was fantatic. The place, the food and the drive were all first rate. My "Big Brown" burger was really good but I don't think top 5 like Guy did. Mrs. Sippi's East Hampton was exceptional. Melted brie, ham and apple. What a great combination. The Danger Brownie is for chocolate lovers. Plenty of pics and some history here. http://davwudsfoodcourt.b...-is-not-fast-food.html DT

I know I haven't eaten in some of the finer steakhouses mentioned on these forums but I think Malone's on Tate's creek is probably one of the best steaks I've ever had

I'm not a local and we hardly travel through but I am reading this thread with great interest. Back in '99 my wife and I stumbled on Halls on the River and we thought it was exceptional in every way then. We went back about three years ago (2007 or 2008) when were were passing through on the way home after a trip down south and the experience - food and service - was pretty much comparable to Applebee's. I would not bother with the stiff side trip out of Lexington for it now.
