Afternoon all... This post may be bit early but in May 2005 I am embarking on pedal powered gastronomic tour of North and South America in search of the perfect meal. Read more here www.thehungrycyclist.com I have a basic route planned but where I go to eat is down to you. I need you to tell me the best restaurants, food festivals, road food or your mum's cooking, to help me in my mission... I do hope you can help me - many thanks for your time Tom

Tom, My gut says that you will run into some similar trouble as our good friend, WanderingJew. Posting on Thanksgiving Day, with the huge holiday shopping weekend to follow might allow your post to get missed. You might try revisiting in the next week or so, or as your route becomes a little more defined. I did check out your web site, and would encourage others to do the same -- it is really well laid out, and does a pretty good job of outlining your plans. I will have some suggestions for you when I can review my notes, and I am certain that the other folk here will be happy to flow with some suggestions and perhaps, if the times can be worked out right, and meet and greet. Best of luck to you on your journey. Steve

I too amd going over some notes and will have some suggestions for your west coast of the USA leg.---and btw---if I was biking California---i'd stay on the dcoastal route as much as possible for the view and then consider excursions into the interior for FOOD trips ---ie--my favorite Claifornia mexican is NOT on the coast but in the central valley---got any definate route for california yet--or are you waiting for suggestions. I lived for many years in Chico Ca--VERY bike friendly and i think you woulod be WELL recived!! Home to the oldest continuously operating bicycle club in the USofA--not to mention Morning Thunder!!--my all time favorite breakfast place---great food--lots of it and the best looking, most professional and friendly wait staff i ever met! Let know if you go through there and i will get you a few invites and a place to spend the night too----i can be contact via email right here. Looks like a great trip---and YES I AM JELOUS!!! Best of luck! PS---so i dont forget it later---Guerneville Calif---on the Russian River north of SanFrancisco---the River Inn----killer "Cream waffles!!!!

If you pop into Oregon, you'll be in a center of cycledom, but Tiki's right about those Pesky Mountains. Many cyclists prefer to do Oregon between the mountain ranges, both for the better weather and the many options in food wine and beer, both in establishments and manufacturing. I've plugged Ashland and the Rogue Valley too much on these pages, but Your English chest would swell with pride at the influence your buddy Willy Shakespeare has had on the atmosphere at this end of Oregon. A real 4th of July parade every year attended by thousands is but one highlight of a true, if a bit wacky, glimpse of Americana. Have you thought about any other routes, or is that set in stone? Have you been to America before(outside the east coast)? http://www.osfashland.org http://www.ashlandchamber.com
