Has a timeframe for the location announcement and dates been established?  Looking to make some September - October travel plans and I would like to incorporate this trip into the mix.

Same here. I usually make my late summer NC roadtrip right after the Labor Day weekend, but if the RF event is going to be in my preferred location of Santa Fe or someplace else that's close enough to home for me ( that leaves out Portland ), I'll need to combine the two trips into one in order for me to attend.

If the weekend after Labor Day I am busy hosting another event, a Class B RV rally in Grand Marais, MN which interestingly enough would be a great trip for roadfooders as well. I've been enticing the RVers with this photo gallery.

I vote for Santa Fe and environs, because:
A) the fall will be perfect for chile season.

B) the Bobcat Bite is great if you're there for the meat, but the GCC's are way better at the Parasol in Espanola and I want to hear other reviews of this.

C) there simply isn't enough information on this board about destinations in this area - it's always the BCB, etc.  I spend a lot of time in this area and would like to see more! (and maybe I should just break down and write more)

Okay, I had to search this thread to figure out what GCC's are (green chili cheeseburger, I assume), but what is BCB? This is too much like homework and it's been many years since I've had to do any!

One of the trips I've wanted to do for some time now is take the Amtrak "Southwest Chief" line to Albuquerque, stay there or Santa Fe for a week, then continue on the line to Flagstaff and hang in the Sedona area for another week.

*Sigh* Don't think I can manage a trip such as this any time this year. Ditto any of the trips suggested in this thread.

Afraid I'm going to have to change my vote from Santa Fe to Memphis. A review of my, umm... "fiscal situation" has convinced me that New Mexico isn't really an option this year. Probably just as well, as I still haven't been to Charlie Vergos Rendezvous or Interstate BBQ.

Albuquerque has some interesting eating places - couple that with Santa Fe.  Also Western Carolina/Asheville.

Portland.  Time to come west.  Best time during the early or late summer.  Don't worry about the weather.

I vote for Charleston hands down. Some of the best food on the planet. I vote a strong 2nd choice for Memphis. Either way you can't lose...

I forgot to add make it after the hot/humid summer. Late September on would be OK both CHS or MEM, October being ideal.

Why not Cleveland?  Been there many times and they have some GREAT places.  Great neighborhood places, great diners, great fish frys and their neighborhoods are so unique.  The Flats stands out as a great place to hang and get good food.

Amongst the four choices given, I would prefer Charleston and the Low Country.

Trudy and I are still hoping Portland and the Oregon coast will be the choice. Some of Western Oregon's best weather is that time of year.,

We are exploring two options.  One is out west, and another is down south.  We are still figuring out logistics, but hope to have a decision in a week or two.

I'm with the Sundancer: since I'm limited to locations within a day's drive of my home and at reasonably low altitudes, I'd go for the southeastern quadrant of the US. The Mississippi Delta would be interesting, but anywhere in that quadrant would suit me just fine!

The Charleston/Lowcountry excursion should extend north to Georgetown(River Room, Rice Paddy, others), Pawley's Island(Louis') and Murrell's Inlet.(Oliver's Lodge, Lee's Inlet Kitchen, Nance's, Flo's, just about any other place along the main drag)

Portland!!!  It would be just the excuse I need to make the drive down and check up on my daughter who just moved there and is trying to cut the apron strings!!  lol

While you're there, make a short drive east on 84 and check out Multnomah Falls, and then head a little bit further east to Cascade Locks and visit the East Wind Drive-in.

Awesome 70 year old drive-in with good food.  Not hand-pattied burgers, but still very good. Great fries and milkshakes.  Now I want a soft-serve swirl cone!!
