Where to eat near battlefields in eastern USA?

In late August, my wife and I will travel from NE Alabama (Anniston) to most of the major civil war battlefields. Antietam, Manassas, Gettysburg, exc. We will be staying in Harrisburg, PA and Fredericksburg VA. Any help with places to eat will be most helpful.

Chubby's, in Emmitsburg MD, about 1/2 hour south of Gettysburg. Outstanding BBQ. Reviewed here on RF many times. http://chubbysbbq.com/ And, congratulations on your first post!

Near the Shiloh Military park (Battlefield) is the Catfish Hotel. Excellent Place on the Tennessee River near where Grants Army disembarked from their steamers to beginn the fight. The Catfish Hotel has great Fish, but many other things on the menu...and they introduced me to "CARMEL PIE" something you Must try if you go there. http://www.catfishhotel.com/

For Gettysburg I also recommend Chubbys. I ate there the end of May and it was excellent. Had the brisket plate and could not finish it they gave me so much. The sausage and potato side is great. Real roadhouse feel with very friendly people. The Springhouse Tavern in the basement of the Dobbin House is casual with lots of atmosphere http://www.dobbinhouse.com/ I had the best onion soup I ever tasted there. The grilled chicken breast dinner was very good too. Stay away from the Farnsworth House Inn terrible service and food so-so.

I haven't been to Harrisburg for about 12 years, but remember having good Strombolis several places for lunch.

You may want to revisit a similar trip posted both here (original inquiry) and follow-up trip report here. My only assist in either was the well-worth-the-stop for ice cream in Sharpsburg, Maryland (adjacent to Antietam Battlefield) that being:

When we visited Antietam we ate in Sharpsburg. There was a place that served sandwiches named after major players in the battle. I'm not sure what it's called but it was a bar and grill kinda place. If you can figure out what it was, the sandwiches were awesome. This goes back about 5 years. DT

I concur with this. We met up with Tom and had a nice 45 minute (or so) chat on pretty much all things food related and of course had a great dinner. We were very happy with just about everything but the standouts were the brisket, pork belly and beans. I posted a longer review with some more history on my blog here. http://davwudsfoodcourt.b...d-food-aint-cheap.html If you're in the area, give Tom a visit and introduce yourself. He's a great guy. Davwud, I am confused. Why have you printed this same post in so many places?
