If We were to win the big bucks, the place described would be pretty far down the list of potential stops. I am much more comfortable chatting with Dennis Hays about the various cuts of Hog he uses to do some fine Tennessee BBQ.

I like the ending... Pay all that money for a glass of rare, one of a kind wine... THEN FIND OUT IT TASTES LIKE VINEGAR! ha ha... (Well, I re-wrote the ending)... Would you get a 12,975 dollar refund then?

Because I'm a Southerner, and pretty short-sighted, my first post-lotto victory stop would be Charlie Vergo's.

I think I'd use my winnings to buy an oyster bed in Chincoteague, an interest in a Chesepeake Bay crab packing business, a vineyard in the Finger Lakes, a smokehouse in North Carolina, some lobster pots in Penobscot Bay, and a lemon tree in Trinidad. Cheers, John

Seafarer, may I suggest a MEYER lemon tree in the Bay Area? Of course that tree in Trinidad would cost a lot less...

Tiki has the right idea...except I'd buy a really nice car to do it in, and stay at really nice hotels. This, of course, would be after I quit my job. And I would buy lunch for any Roadfooder I'd meet along the way!

Can I just point out that the French Laundy is NOT in San Francisco--or even very close--but one of the most (if not actually THE most) expensive places in town is . . . Masa's (which has been there for years). So isn't it time New York came up with something NEW?

Hey Michael--I've got a Lisbon lemon tree right on my front patio here in Tucson. Harvested the first of this year's crop last week. That's cheaper than either a Meyer lemon in the Bay Area or anything in Trinidad.

I'd rather sit in on the BBQ chat myself; this place looks like one where I'd be looking for the door. I just can't do the snob thing!

If I won I'd buy a house in San Diego, a nice cabin at Huntington lake and a time share on a jet so that I could travel all over with my family and personal chef. MikeS.

Idle dreams aren't snobby, the restaurant in the original link is! If I were deprived of my fantasies of getting rich with no effort, I might actually have to occupy my time with something productive!

I think filling out a lottery card is at least as hard work as getting a huge inheritance... But , queenb is right, we really should include some good works in our dreams for squandering our wealth, so I wish to amend by list to include a regular donation of time, labor and money to Jimmy Carter's Habitat organization Cheers, john

My wife and I went to Tru, one of the most expensive restaurants in Chicago, for our anniversary in June. It was OK, but I can't remember a single thing I ate there. We spent around $200. By contrast, nearly eight years later, I still remember every minute of my last meal at Stroud's in Kansas City, and pine away for another taste of their fried chicken. That meal probably cost $15.

I'd be surprised if I won the lottery (.. I don't buy tickets!) But if I did win, things probably wouldn't change much because things are so expensive here anyway. I'd need to win $10 million to feel safe enough to quit a job. Anyway, I'd probably remodel my kitchen and get some fancy appliances for I could do even more cooking at home. That's my hobby, trying to recreate the foods I get away from home.

Let's see...a brownstone on the upper east side of NYC, a beach house at Lichfield Beach, SC, a complete rebuild of my '83 BMW 633 CSi. Rest of the bucks my family can play w/, their smiles over "toys" would make me happy.

I would buy Trump Int'l & then I would fire Donald Trump. Chowdah in New England, dogs & fries in Chicago, crawfish in the bayou, fish tacos in the OC, pasties in da UP, fried pickles in Texas, skyline chili in cincinnati, sushi in Seattle, and a big picnic @ Mom's for beer & bratwurst on sheboygan hard rolls in Milwaukee.

Hello All, I have a plan already if I win the lottery which would almost make me broke the next day, but a fantasy winning for myself would be that I would live in various place throughout the country for a year at a time, then move on to another place. Small communities or medium sized cities where I could get to know the people, their habits and tastes, experience their weather and just get a sense of how they celebrate life. York Beach, Maine would be the first place I would head, which is crazy because I hate seafood, but my wife spent summer vacations there when she was young and made me go there once. I loved that place, because it had a rock beach as well as a sand beach. Such sealife in the rocky areas of the land meeting the ocean, and the people were so wonderful. I was there in August, but would like to be there in January or March. I would love to experience a year in Iowa, especially during a national election year, but also to rove through the seasons with people who work and depend on a land and climate different from the Shenadoah Valley of Virginia. I could go on and on about different areas that interest me, but you get the point. And after the U.S., I want to hit Germany, the place my folks left back in the 1700's, though I think that I would find that I am less German than American. Take Care, Fieldthistle

Maybe we could get a hundred or so "roadfoodies" and start an international guide? That'd be cool.

After tending to charitable things, I would be off to the Bahamas to enjoy the cracked conch, conch fritters, and conch salad and Kalik beer at the fish fry in Nassau. Then, it would be off to Martinique to enjoy the culinary pleasures of the French West Indies. Then, it would be home to reality! Andrea
