It's hard to believe but today is the 30th anniversary of The Catch.  Wow...

I thought you were referring to the "Immaculate Reception", not some dinky, simple back of the End Zone catch that's been surpassed by numerous end zone catches of a more complex nature since that mundane catch was made!

Well, this year does mark the 40th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception as well.

Of course, that was a simple deflection to a player not under duress.  All Harris had to do was catch it and run as opposed to timing the jump, catching the ball at the apex, and coming down in bounds...kind of like Santonio Holmes' catch to beat the Cardinals, right?

Regardless of how difficult each was, they're both tremendously significant in NFL history.

You must remember the split second reaction time required by Franco along with keeping his balance, dodging tacklers and doing all this while still chewing his gum. No small feat!
The Santonio Holmes catch was as a result of the Toe Nail Gods smiling on him and poor defensive play by the Cardinals! You really know how to hurt a guy.

Perhaps Tebow's throwing for "3:16" against the #1 pass defense in the NFL was a little karma for Steelers' fans calling Harris' catch of the Fuqua/Tatum deflection "The Immaculate Reception".

So, with humility and respect, here is Franco Harris' "Fortunate Catch":

THIS JUST IN

Tebow's Game Winning Pass WAS ILLEGAL!!!

Denver only had six men on the line not the required seven.  The play should have been flagged for a penalty.

I say

WHO CARES THE STEELERS LOST!!!!
Go Broncos (or anyone who beats Pittsburg)

Does anyone notice that when the Steelers lose "Steeler Nation" does not gnash its teeth and demand coaching and/or personnel changes?

We simply thank the Rooney family for yet another entertaining, classy (no cheesy cheerleaders) season and look forward to the next.

I kind of like cheesy cheerleaders.

However, the last live NFL game I watched was way back in the Bud Grant era Vikings in the outdoor Met Stadium in Minnesota in December and the cheerleaders were not so cheesy if you could find them under the fur.

Just the other day I was watching the FNC morning show and some "Redskinettes" were guests for a segment featuring their "work" on behalf of Armed Services morale.

To illustrate their eleemosynary efforts a video was shown wherein these lovely young ladies were performing a "vertical lap dance" on a visibly uncomfortable uniformed soldier.

The fact that the asian girl was smoking hot aside, such "displays" are, at best, "cheesy" and in this case, simply disrespectful.

Just because I love both bourbon and asparagas doesn't mean that I blend them in the Cuisinart to make a cocktail.  The same goes for professional "dancers" and professional football; both are immensely entertaining but together they make a distasteful "cocktail".

Wellnow, if THAT wasn't an interesting finish to the Saints' season! How many lead changes was that in the last three minutes? Geez...neither of them is even my team (although I was leaning toward Saints) and I couldn't stay sitting down! Wow!

Not even a little, and good riddance.

Am I allowed to hate him if I did before it became popular to do so? He was at Florida. I'm an Alabama fan.

Hate is a strong word. No one should hate anyone over something as silly as football, unless you're an Alabama or maybe an Auburn Fan. It's in the genes---from conception to death. WAR EAGLE!

There is that.

Granted, I don't actually hate him. I don't know him well enough for that. But I do strongly dislike him, and took great pleasure every game he lost when they would show the closeup of his tears spilling over the bible verses on his cheeks.

Oh, and by the way, Denver is my ex's team. I have double reason to be happy.

I used to dislike Tebow, but realized there was no reason to.  He's allowed to express himself, and if the bible and Christianity is what inspires him, that's fine.  The media plays it up far, far more than he does.  He just goes out and plays hard and tries to win, and he does it with a lot of supporters and a lot of haters.  But I like him a lot better than a lot of the mouthy wide receivers, the cheap shot artists and the me-first guys that play the game, let alone the guys that are criminals.  With a lot of physical talent, though a lack of pure quarterbacking skills, he goes out and tries his hardest.  Nothing wrong with that.

Denver's defense gave up 5 1st half touchdowns...Unitas or Marino couldn't get you out of that hole!
49ers-Saints game reminded me of an Ali-Frazier fight.

Denver's head coach and offensive coordinator deserve credit for being able to accomplish as much as they did with a significantly limited offense.  It'll be interesting to see what the off-season and 2012 training camp bring.

If it's the Patriots and the Packers in the Super Bowl they might as well say that the first team to 100 points wins.

One certainly hopes it will not be the Packers in the Super Bowl, and especially not the Packers playing again next week.

I'm pulling for the Ravens to win it all.  Not that I'm a fan of the team, but Baltimore kicker Billy Cundiff is a fellow Drake Bulldog and one of us doesn't make it in professional sports very often.

Ditto, but I never disliked Tebow. I've always admired his leadership and inspiration to lift his teams in games. At one time, with the success he had at Florida, I could not understand all the criticism. But yesterday pretty much put it on display in regard to his passing abilities.
