I know the burgers at Terry's are good, but my last visit has me wondering how soon I'll be back. The service was flat out horrible, and rude. We were there at 6 PM on a friday, and were pressured to order quickly. There were 7 in our party, and we were forced to move from an 8 person table to a six person table after we were seated.
The burgers were good, but exceptionally greasy. I still don't care for the fries. Soggy and greasy. Our bill came, and it was impossible to decipher. All it had were hash marks, then a total for the line. There were no words at all. When we asked our waitress what each line item represented, she scolded us and said "no separate checks!". Then she grabbed the check from us, and broke it out. We did not ask her for separate checks, or to break it out for us, simply to identify the line items so we could break out our own check.
Our total was $110, but by the time she was done breaking it out, it mysteriously became $140. That's $20 each for a burger and a couple beers. Certianly not worth getting yelled at for.
Overall, one of the worst service experiences in my memory. The place was packed though, and there was a line waiting, so I doubt they'll change anything anytime soon. People seem to be convinced this place is awesome. It just cracks me up to see all the Hyde Park'ers think they're "cool" because they're going to the little dive joint that has quietly become the most overpriced burger in the city.
(By contrast, I was at Quatman Cafe on Saturday. 2 huge burgers, each with a generous portion of perfect shoestring fries, I had two beers and the girl had one. Total with tax and a >20% tip was $20.00)
