Where's the NFL Chatter ('11 version)?
Wed, 09/7/11 8:38 AM
( permalink)
The Packers & Saints kick it off on Thurs. & with no rooting interest in either team, I can just enjoy the game. (That won't be the case on Sunday night, when my Jets host those guys from Dallas.) Pats & Eagles seemed to have stocked their rosters pretty well, but can they play as a team? More than a few teams (Colts, Jags, Redskins, etc.) still have QB questions at this late date. Will the short pre-season result in some ragged play in the first few weeks? Answers coming this weekend.

The $64,000 Question is "Why did they wait so long to decide to do another surgery on Manning"? Beware of the Redbirds of the Desert! They're going to surprise some experts PROVIDING they can remain relatively healthy. Fear the Redbird!!!

Foodbme - I'd get a really sense of pleasure if it turns out the Cardinals ended up with the better of the two Eagles QBs. I'll define better as "advances farthest in the playoffs."

NFL Pundits predict that Vick is injury prone. If he keeps running out of the pocket, someone will nail him. Maybe a linebacker who loves dogs?? Sure way to get injured?? Sign a big contract!

CajunKing Peyton Manning OUT 2-3 MONTHS!!!!! The Colts are TOAST this season. http://sports.yahoo.com/n...-Thursd?urn=nfl-wp6714 CK, my guess is that Peyton will be out the entire season and perhaps the rest of his career. It appears that very few can return successfully after that type of injury according to all reports that I have read. I really hate it for Peyton as he was great. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I second Sundancer's note about Peyton Manning's status. The Colt's exist around his QB role. Breaking in a Sub...or a replacement, will cost them the season. I wish him well. The Packers/Saints game last night was one of the 'most fun' games I have ever watched. The results were very good. The never-ending effort by the Saints kept the excitment going to the final gun !

It was a good game. Just shows how 2 world class QB's can pick apart any secondary. Recievers keep getting taller and faster and CB's and Safeties don't.

JRPfeff, how did the Presidents speech go? I was tied up and couldn't catch it. I did manage to catch the game. Wow. If I wasn't already grey haired, I would have been by games end.

With Peyton out, will the AFC South be this year's NFC West? Will a 9-7 record win the division? This maybe Houston's year.

The Pack Attack is going to be tough to beat this year. Aaron Rodgers looked like mid to late season form and the whole team was clicking on all cylinders.

He took some pretty good hits last night. The winner of the Super Bowl will be the team with the last QB still standing! I have a gut feeling a lot of QB's are going to be on the injured list this year.

I thought I was going to watch a good football game with the Steelers & Ravens going at it, but it turned into a mugging. Jets didn't so much win the game, more of a case of Romo & the Cowboys losing the game.

After watching the Bears-Falcons game yesterday I think Brian Urlacher spent his lockout days tracking down the fountain of youth! Last week I heard one radio host refer to the NFC North as the toughest division in the NFL. He just might have a point.

Maybe had the Vikings not blown a halftime 10 point lead over the Chargers after that San Diego Al Gore look alike coach put the Vikings passing attack in a lock box. McNabb threw for a total of 39 yards and only 2 in the second half. Maybe the Vikings infatuation with old quarterbacks may be coming to an end.

A nice wins for the 'Skins! Not only a season opener, but a Division win! QB situation may not be as grim as it seemed. And the Defense looked really good. Lots of interesting results around the league - Bengals winning, Lions winning, Colts in trouble - looks to be a shift of power in a few divisions.

When Rex Grossman is on his game he can be quite good but during his years in Chicago he was pretty inconsistent, so what you see next Sunday might bear absolutely no resemblance to what you saw yesterday. Maybe not, but there's usually a reduction in productivity. The "I got mine, don't need to work as hard Syndrome" I don't even know if that is really true. There are some guys who dog it, like Albert Haynesworth and Jamarcus Russell, but for the most part, the effort is there. Reductions in productivity don't necessarily mean that they aren't working hard. It's a brutal game that takes its toll pn those who play it. They "I got mine" guys are few and far between.

Brad That's why Aaron Beck is there, who hasn't played crappy either. I think both players have improved since their former years on other teams. Which some expected, but I thought both QBs were back-up type QBs at this point, but both are proving me wrong. I like Shanahan - it's a long season, but he's creating an aura of working together and team spirit and a winning attitude, without being overconfident. Something people like Haynesworth and even McNabb didn't have. I like McNabb and I don't think of him as selfish as Haynesworth. However, I think McNabb was a team player in Philly, but not so much in DC - not because he wasn't happy here, but because he didn't trust ownership anymore - and if there's one owner not to trust, it's Jerry Jone....I mean, er uh, Dan Snyder!

CajunKing AFC South - Will ANYONE have a winning record at the end of the year? I would think that the Texans would- They have tough games within the next 5 weeks against N.O., Pittsburgh and Baltimore. On the rest of the schedule- Miami, Oakland, Tenn (2X) Jacksonville (2X), Cleveland, Cincinnati, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, Carolina, and Indy. I would think that they are good for at least 10 wins.
