Where's the NFL chatter?

This is the time of year where there's guarded optimism among the fans of all teams (well, maybe not for Raiders fans.) An interesting Saints-Vikes opener is followed by Sunday's games & then a Monday double header. Throw in the Saturday college schedule & I'll probably be a glassy-eyed zombie by Tuesday morning. Go Jets!

Cav------I am a great big Giant fan---but the season doesn't get exciting until November--------I can't get a lot of their games on TV down here, I can get the Bucs, Nascar, Fishing and Golf but no Giants.  BrightHouse has no plans
    of showing NYers NY football.

But, in the meantime, The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will be mopping up the field with the Michigan guys on Saturday.

I confess that the NFL North is spot on.

What is there to be excited about? The Giants will beat the Ravens in the Super Bowl.

I don't know, Felix.  The Lions should at least be fun to watch and are moving in the right direction.  Finally.
As a Bears fan, I think that we are in for a long year- poor offensive line and weak defensive secondary come to mind immediately.
It's a wide open year.  The favorite pick out of the AFC right now seems to be the Jets, but I think that the Colts are still the best team and the Chargers look pretty good as well.
A lot of people seem to like the Packers in the NFC, but they have their own set of defensive shortcomings as well.  Therre are a lot of teams that can compete in the NFC, and I don't care who it is as long as it's not the Vikings.

Well, when the Lords of Lutefisk destroy the Butchers of Wisconsin to get to the NFC title game against the Giants it'll mean a new treat for the Giants to taste.

Well, the Broncos have a shot at the AFC West if Josh McDaniels gets his head out of his ass. I don't see them in the Super Bowl for at least another 5 years.
When Tebow comes into his own, watch out. The next John Elway???

I don't see the Vikings doing it this year, but they are loaded offensively and defensively, except fot their secondary plus he's missing he's best receiver for at least the first 8 games.  It's doubtful that Favre will put together a year like he had last year, which was one of his best ever and his best since the mid-1990's, so even a small step down and he'll still be good, but he's coming into the season with an injury that will limit his mobility, and after 272 straight starts, a multitude of hits and 4 ankle surgeries, one of them recently, I think this is the year he starts to feel his football age.

Michael Mon Ami, let the good times roll indeed, but they won't roll far I am afraid ---The Packers may have a few roll stoppers in their line-up.
Farve's supply of Serutan may have run out.

Favre's lack of preparation for the season showed itself last night and may have cost the Vikings a win.

Didn't see the game but saw the score. A defensive battle to be sure.

Won my first pick of the season though. I am on the Yahoo Pro Pick 'em Fantasy League. I am also on the Survival Fantasy League. Only one pick per week and you can't pick the same team in the same season twice. I went 12 weeks without a loss last year but am not feeling the same confidence as last year.

Wife is actually on a Fantasy Football League which surprised the hell out of me. She has a lot more time at home than I do, so more time to do research.

It was more a "we-aren't quite-ready-yet" game than a defensive struggle Boy-R-D-------at least the "Old Man
from Minny-soda" sure isn't ready.  He spent too much time signing up for Medicare this summer.

I thought it interesting that Brees will be having a new child  soon while after the the game Brent was off for a grandson's christening.  His selfishness in avoiding training camp proved the difference. His INT total could have been much higher if the Saints defenders had been better receivers, but that's probably why they play defense.

Day One is in the books---------nothing earth shaking.
The Giants whooped Carolina so that helps ease the pain of Notre dame losing to Michigan yesterday.

And. for those of you old timers who remember George Atkinson, all-pro Def back with Oakland, you might be interested to know his twin sons verbalized (oral acceptance of a scholarship) to Notre Dame after the game.  George Jr is supposed to be a big star.

I just saw a Papa John's commercial that features Dan Snyder and Jerry Jones.

Fitting that it was taped in the new Cowboys stadium...probably the only one big enough to hold both their egos at the same time.

So the Redskins beat, no the Cowboys beat themselves.

If you want to see injustice try to see the Lions get screwed by the replay judge on Calvin Johnson's TD catch.  It is on a lot of videos.

Redskins beat the Cowboys. They should've intercepted two passes on that last 'boys drive. Redskins shot themselves in the foot too, during the game, that would've put the game away. It was indeed ungly on some fronts, but no, Cowboys didn't lose the game as if the Redskins didn't outplay them. the Redskins should've opened it up, but played equally as bad in some key moments.

The holding penalty absolutely led to the TD. Had he not been held, Romo would not have had a lane to the right to run through and pass, instead, he would've had to continue left, where there was nothing.

I was yelling "HOLDING" as soon as Romo cut right. It was blatant. Had they not called it, it would've been as bad as the ruling in the Detroit game.
