A friend of ours was just featured on Unwrapped on the Food Network. The candy is really good and makes a great gift. AIR TIMES: April 10, 2006 9:00 PM ET/PT April 11, 2006 12:00 AM ET/PT April 14, 2006 7:30 PM ET/PT http://www.tennesseewhiskeycandy.com

Raine, I saw that. It sounded to me like it was sugar, corn syrup and Jack Daniels and cooked to 302 F where it was poured into a mold, allowed to cool and covered with powder sugar. Why the temp of 302F? I am not sure except they showed the thermometer and indicated that it was a important thing. The lady stated that they were mostly non alcohoic as the cooking process removed the alcohol. I have never tried the candy although I have been to Lynchburg and the distillery many times. The last time I was with Poverty, Bushie, The Mayor, Janet and others. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

I don't know about the temp. It may have something to do with it setting up. I know humidity is a big problem in making it. The candy has a whiskey flavor, just don't think you'll catch a buzz. It is good and different. The general store in Lynchburg sells it, or you can order it from Sandy directly.

Bourbon Candies are very popular in Kentucky, especially around Derby time. Often they are sitting in a small bowl on the bar or on the tables in a bar. They are usually very mild. We have made both the cooked and the uncooked recipes for Bourbon balls. The uncooked packs much more of a "Kick" than the ones that you cook away the effects of the alcohol as you make them.

I watched it too. I believe she said after cooking and cooling the candy has a "smooooooth" flavor. Sorry I didn't pay as much attention to this story, I'm not a candy eater. The crawfish, caught my eye though!

the temp is vital when making hard candy of any type. Too low and you get caramel, too high and you get carbon.

I cant recall seeing a booze flavored candy around here... But then again I haven't really looked either. Does sound like something intresting to try. But I think the problem around here is that people try to find candy to 'hide' the smell of booze... Especially after 2am.

How exciting to see this on the forum...the name of the candy is Tennessee Whiskey Candy. It is made in Lynchburg, Tennessee...home of the one and only Jack Daniels. It is available for sale online at TennesseeWhiskeyCandy.com, by calling 931-759-7510, and at lots of retailers in the area. Unwrapped came and filmed the episode for "Cocktail Culture" in September - the interview section was actually held at Jack Daniels in their Lynchburg Bar Room, the tasting was at the Lynchburg Hardware Store, and then the candy was made at the Lynchburg Candy Company kitchens. The reason I know all this is that I am the woman on the piece known as the "Whiskey Candy Expert"... This candy is really delicious - not like a bourbon ball at all - is smooth, mellow, and is really tastes like Jack!
