White BBQ Rub

On BBQ America there was a segment on a place called Hickory Stick BBQ in Shreveport that used a white powdery rub on chicken and ribs. It appeared to be flour based with spices added. Anyone made or tasted a similar rub? The host seemed to really like it.

I have had a white rub made with flour, garlic, cracked black pepper, lawrys seasoned salt, onion powder...it was white because of the flour, but that was not the main ingredient, just a filler.

Did the flour add anything flavor wise? Did it form a crust? What does it bring to the party other than making the rub white?
