The other day our area (Cincinnati) local White Castles had a special promotion for their 80th year in the area. 8 White Castle for 80 cents 1 cup of coffee for 5 cents The coffee was sold all day the special on slyders was a 6pm-8pm. They sold: 125,000 cups of nickel coffee 240,000 slyders What a way to celebrate 80 years. (BTW: Yes the slyders were good) edited to add location

Enginecapt, at least you've got INO burgers to console you in California. I'd throw in all our Wendy's, BK's & Mickey D's for a Whitey down here. Oh well, dream on. Meantime we do have Krystals in the area. QFan Bonita Springs, FL

I wish I was in Cincinnati for there 80th celebration! I would have bought a truckload to bring down to FL with me. The one thing I miss about NY now that I have moved to FL is White Castle! Krystal just can't compare. I know how you feel QFan. Last year we went to Nashville and I think we ate at white castle almost everyday!

White Castle hamburgers are terrific in my opinion. Love them when they are fresh and hot. Nothing compares. Krystal hamburgers don't even come close to them in greatness. As a former "northerner" now in Florida, boy do I miss them alot. White Castle's is a strange business. They've been around for a very long time (I think 1921), but they are such a conservative company and for some reason they are extremely reticent to expand into new markets and states. I don't understand their thinking. I think they could run circles around most of the fast food hamburger joints in most places (especially the Checkers and Sonics down here in Florida) but choose for some reason not to expand. I know they have their detractors, but I think there are many more fans of White Castles than not and I think they would be tremendously successful if they went nationwide. Actually, they used to be in Miami years ago. At the DesPlaines, Illinois White Castles there is a WC historical display with pictures of the former White Castles store in Miami that no longer exists because it was far away from their supply source. Let's all write to White Castles and get them to see the light.

"but i will keep my Chateau LeBlanc's" Maybe I've been under a rock, but that's a new one on me. Love it! Too bad the nearest Chateau is in my old neighborhood, 200-odd miles away.

WC is very conservative about expansion, because there are places where they have failed like Kansas City. Before closing completely, many WC outlets there also sold Church's chicken. I guess not everyone has the taste for sliders...

Which is kind of odd when you think about the fact that they started out in Wichita, just down the Kansas turnpike a bit. QFan Bonita Springs, FL

Figure that 240,000 white castles equal about 1/4 side of beef. An impressive number tho. I remember how long the McD's marque said over 1 million sold. britt
