White House Sub Help

Hello All

Going to be taking a bus trip to Atlantic City to the casino's and want to try the Special at White House.Is it with in walking distance from the casino's[ don't know which one]?

White House Subs is like 3 blocks from Trump Plaza.

As close to the Boardwalk as it is and as well worth the walk as it is, do not walk to the White House after dark. (Am not even sure it's open then.) Even during the day, stay on the busiest streets.

Sorry to be negative here. Other than that safety caution, the general Boardwalk area is fine.

Agree with the safety warning. When you order PLEASE look at the actual size of hoagie you are ordering. If you feel up to it and have a great appetite get the whole - but you may need a friend to help you finish it.

As I recall, the Trump Plaza is the closest casino to the WH Sub Shop, but you can make it to Bally's or Caesar's too, with a little more effort. The other casinos I wouldn't recommend walking to.

There are people here who know AC much better than I do, but I can tell you there is no way I would walk to White House Sub Shop.

Here we go , I run bus trips every few months to AC for our local Knights of Columbus and stay over every few months for a night or two at Showboat , Ballys or Harrahs.
If you want to walk to White House Subs it is doable from Trump Plaza . If you are taking the bus to some of the further casinos I suggest taking the jitney to Trump Plaza ( not Taj Mahal!!) and walking the three blocks . If you have a few extra sheckles may I suggest you cab it over there , if you feel you can do it than walk back to the boardwalk.

The subs are very big , you can order a half , so check out the sizes before oredering .
The place does get crowded but they do have table service , nice atmosphere .
When you geth there take a look at the famous persons pictures on the wall .
NOTE: Roddy McDowell is on there , early 80s photo with his " partner " of the moment . Mention it because it was a very loosely kept secret that Roddy was gay . Really did not come out until after his death .

If you can travel the 7 miles south, Ocean City NJ, has lots of great roadfood.

Valtacos ( Best Cheese steaks IMO)
Macko Mano Pizza
Kors Frozen Custard
Johnson's Carmel Corn
Bob's Diner

All are either on or close to the Ocean City Boardwalk.

the subs may be long in length but short on meat. highly overrated.

Ah, sk_bob, but aren't the taste of the "dressed" subs to die for. Awesome meal, IMO.

Except for White House Subs we mainly stay with the casino meals .
I have to agree with Mark that Ocean City has some great eats , good suggestions . Good if you have a vehicle .
I have to disagree with sk bob on his assessment . Everyone I have taken to White House Subs has enjoyed the sandwich. A bit pricey , yes .

Do yourself a big favor and stay out of that 'hood. period. WH serves these huge globs of cold cuts on a hoagie roll you will never even get half-way thru.

Go to the Baltimore Grille at Atlantic and Iowa Avenues for a Sandwich, Pasta or the BEST PIZZA on the East Coast.

I agree. The Baltimore Grille approaches the holy grail when it comes to pizza.

Dude, the one I bought was this huge hoagie roll filled thick with too much meat and everything else to properly enjoy the sandwich.

I'm not big on gambling, so I ususally do my obligatory hour or so in the casinos and then wander around (I've walked to a lot of places in AC at all times of night and never had a problem, but I do tend to stick to main streets). Here's my recs, all within a 15 minute walk of the strip:

Tony's Baltimore Grill - Yes, Top 10 NJ pizza
Irish Pub - My favorite AC place.
Gilchrists - 50's ambiance breakfast and lunch
Angelo's Fairmount Tavern - I usually manage to drag my friends here instead of the casinos. Old School Italian.
Pic A Lilli Tavern - Great greasy chicken wings and fingers
White House Sub Shop - I think it's good, but it's reputation is way greater than it deserves. Go once.
Then, to bring home great Italian bread, Rando's bakery and Formica Bros bakery. Both a walk back in time.

Another thread making me homesick for NJ food. I say this because you bring up the Pic a Lilli. I almost forgot about that place, and it is definitely worth a mention if you are a fan of buffalo wings. Those wings can stand with the best of Upstate NY.

Ken, another good watering hole outside the Casinos is the Chelsea Pub, between Atlantic and Pacific Aves. near the TROPICANA.

Let's settle the White House Subs meat debate once and for all.

At least one offering, the "special" shown in the first picture, should satisfy most meat lovers:
