White Tower

The first and arguably the last official White Tower restaurant in Ohio has been put up for sale for $1, or less than the price of its famed ButterBURGER.

I must say that as an avid White Tower fan I cannot ever recall them having anything called a butter burger, whatever the heck that might have been.

If the project designers were more creative perhaps they would have thought of incorporating the White Tower building into their design plans. It stands to reason such a large project could use a small restaurant. I bet they will put in a McDonalds or worse in the new building. What a waste, with a little thought they could they could have had something really cool and saved a bit of history.

I worrked around the corner from the one main st. The butter burger was always advertised in the window as in "The home of the original butter burger." It was 1/4lb diner burger on a toasted bun w/lto+pickle. I dont know if it actually cooked in but it was served with a butter pat on top, oozing around and into the meat. It did add some richness and for a buck it was a decent burger

Interesting. I used to practically live at the White Tower in New Haven, which, incidentally, was just up the street from Louis Lunch. It was usually filled with drunks eating bugrers and beans. I was too young to be a drunk. By the way, I much preferred the hamburgers at the White Tower to the ones at Louis Lunch. The manager of the place was the father of one of my football teammates.

Wow -- I had no idea they made it out to CT. Any idea what's at its old location now?

And as much as I like Louis Lunch, IMO the hype has always exceeded reality. I can totally see how they wouldn't be a first (or even second or third or...) choice in New Haven.

It's been a while since I was last in New Haven, but when I was there was a parking lot on the site.

As to Louis Lunch, I was never a fan of their hamburgers, but I loved their steak sandwiches.

Should guessed. Some days it seems like New Haven is one big parking lot.

Some day, when the stars are aligned right and they're serving steak sandwiches while I'm there I'm actually going to try one.

Unless things have changed drastically they always serve steak sandwiches. The sandwiches are very thinly sliced eye of the round cooked and served on toast -- what else at Louis Lunch? -- with onions and tomato.

I have fond memories of some of the Camden, NJ White Towers. I would love for them to make a comeback. Nice fair competition for White Castle.
