When I buy groceries for the group home where I work, I ofter buy Foster Farms corn dogs. The clients seem to like them. For me, I think the enjoyment of corn dogs is also a function of where I eat them. Corn Dogs are the food of the id, pleasure food associated with good times(county fairs, picnics, sporting events) and a food whose pleasures are primal.

When i was a kid in Memphis, i had a teacher from Brooklyn who said Dip Daaawwwgs when i asked what was for lunch. We knew them as Pronto Pups. FYI Aldi sells a 6 pack of corndogs for less than $2 that are pretty good!

Used to get " Tater Dogs " at Tim's Drive-In in Richland, Washington in the sixtys. Spiced potato dough, they were better than corn dogs. But then we also had" Spudnuts ( still there ) " which are better than " Krispe Kremes "

Here in Versailles, KY, we have wonderful fat, crisp, golden brown and not soggy corndogs at our local Dairy Mart. They are equal or better than the ones you get at a carnival. I don't put anything on them, because they're perfect as they are! Andrea

quote:Originally posted by Theedge Corn dogs pale in comparison to Pronto Pups. My co-worker who sits next to me is from Minnesota and received 20 lbs of pronto pup mix as a gift about two years ago. She has fried a few but there are at least 19 lbs still sitting under her desk. Have to start a state fair or something.

Maybe I'll have to plan a day trip that takes me through Versailles. Thanks Andrea!

I am pretty sure my first corndog was at the Portland Zoo - but that was over 30 years ago, so who knows? (I like the veg ones, too!)
