What was retirement like before the computer age?
I really can not imagine being without it.  It opens up
the whole world for me---I scan 6 newspapers every
morning, I write to a dozen friends and relatives, I even
have some time to check out a bunch of bozos on
Roadfood and see what they are up to.

The Bozos are the good guys-----if it wasn't for them this

You also resemble a guy in the movies ---what the heck is his name, darn my memory is slipping---when I think of it I'll let you know.  he was the head usher at RKO Keiths.

Davy----how come we never hear about those guys?  They did a great job.  Unfortunately I will have to stick with Bill Gates because I can't remember the real heros. 
 
Isn't it always the way Davy, the guys in the trenchs, or the "brains" in their little labs, never get any credit.  Your a good guy to remember them.

I have been retired since July 16, 2010. I LOVE it!
I did post from work occasionally,  but only when nothing else was going on.

The computer I use  at work belongs to me.  I think that warrants some slack on how I use it.
 
The manager also asks me for recipes and recommendations on restaurants so....   Perfect!

Since I work from home the computer here is mine also.  I bought it for cash in 1988 and it works fine.  A little slow at times but then I crank it up again and I get all the good stuff.

That computer is 22 years old.  That has to be some type of record??
 
I am surprised that a computer that old has adequate memory.
 
I am totally retired now but when I was employed, I used my work computer for any purpose that I wish which included posted on Roadfood.  I had 3 computers in my office.  Incidentally, I usually worked 12-14 hour days.

The technology has changed so much that I find it hard to believe that you could even upgrade it. But then oh Ancient one, you are a Magic Man.

Cum ta think of it Joe---even on that lovely day I had to drive my mother-in-law home after a week's stay, I had a crank in the rear.
 
Sorry if I mislead some of you folk-----my '88 computer has long since gone the way of all pre-historic monsters.  It has been replaced by about 6 since then.  The faster they go the slower I go----but that's the way life is.

I know many guys who when plied with enough liquor, would be happy to take a bite on a Granny Smith!

Since I have a dialup connection here at home I have to look at photo-heavy threads like trip reports and year-end wrapups at work, where the connection uses much bigger tubes.

I work from home, so I'm posting from "work", which right now is my couch with CNN on watching the squirrels getting harrassed by jays trying to get to the feeder.
