Wild Willy's

A quick search will find a bunch of Wild Willy mentions on this site, but none that I could find in the Fast Food Franchise thread. I posted here rather than reply to one of the older threads, because it IS as franchise..........at least my local one is. Our Worcester, Mass Wild Willy has been open for some time, but I just got there for lunch today. The food is good and the service by young "cool" men was great. (sort of like Moe's with out the chatter). You order and pay at the counter.

I was unaware that they,[he}, franchised some of his locations. I have eaten at the ones in Portland, York and Watertown all company owned and a good burger at all. My only complaint is you can't get a burger medium rare there, just like going to lunch with your mother. But the quality of the beef helps to keep the burger moist and tastey at Med. They serve Moxie also, nice touch. Chow Jim

I had to cut my original post short when a customer came in. I wanted to add that they now serve a bison or chicken burger for a buck more. As for the regular burgers, they have about a dozen kinds, all about 1/3 lb and at 5.95. They don't stick you for extras. The fries are ok. I'm not an onion ring fan but the one I had was ok, based on my uneducated onion ring palet. Mom said that Willy's onion rings are great. They are real rings, not the minced, pre formed frozen ones. One of the staff said that they are made fresh to order.

The Worcester location has to be struggling; there never seems to be anyone in the parking lot. Ever. When they first opened they were busy but it's been a slow decline since then. I went a couple times and wasn't really that impressed. Sure, the burgers were pretty good but the food was slow to come out and a bit expensive IMO. The $3.50 rootbeer (with no refills) is a rip-off, and the 'two beer limit' is just silly.

It is kind of an odd location...and it seems like there are a number of empty restaurant buildings in that area.

I went to the Worcester location last week. I wasn't impressed. I told them I wanted the burger rare, but they said they cooked them all medium/well. It probably would have been a good burger if they had pulled it off the fire 10 minutes sooner. The thing was dried out and cooked completely through, not a spot of pink left. The fries were undercooked, limp and pretty much tasteless. I've been to the York location before and they asked me how I wanted it cooked. I ordered rare and got medium-rare, and it was juicy and tasty. I'll bet the Worcester location is out of business soon. There were 3 other parties in there when I went on a Wednesday night. Looked almost abandoned from the outside. Overall a disappointing trip.
