I tried to open one in NYC and was told no thanks. THat was 6 yrs ago. Hopefully, they'll make it up here.

Waffle House is in Indiana, but they are called Waffle & Steak. When passing through Indiana a few years back, I stayed in a small town hotel somewhere between Indianapolis & Cinncinnati, and I asked the clerk where there was to eat in town, and she told me that there was a Waffle House a few blocks away.

I drove to the "Waffle House" as directed by the hotel clerk, only to be greeted by something called Waffle House, but definately not what I was used to. Turns out these guys opened in Indiana in the 50s, predating the Georgia based chain, who didn't go into Indiana until the 70s, and they had to use an alternate name. So, what folks across the South know as the Waffle House, is called "Waffle & Steak" in Indiana. I found out later that there was one of these not far away, after eating a pretty poor meal at the other WH.

Just dont get the steak.. I had one in Fla and it was awful, as much as they tout their steak and eggs, I felt like I had to try it..
Ugh...........

if they open in nyc it would have to be kinda like the krispy kreme phenomena, that hip cause it's square kinda thing. the expansion into a high profile area like nyc could be good or bad for waffle house depending on how greedy they were. i also think the real estate would kill em in manhattan but who knows if their open all night they get the clubbers lol.

I've never had a bad steak at a Waffle House. I don't know if it's systemwide, but the Waffle House restaurants in my area no longer have the 14-ounce porterhouse steaks. They have the regular ten-ounce T-bones and the small strips.

The COPS episode I stumbled into last nite had a long scene dealing with some domestic violence between a Hooker and the driver of a pickup truck who had "offered her a ride". The whole scene was filmed in the parking lot of a Waffle House, With the Big Yellow Sign featured in most of the video shots. I wonder how much Waffle House paid for the Name exposure??

RT66Mike. Was this in Seymour Indiana? Because we ate at the Waffle House there(The Indiana chain not the big Georgia one everbody knows) and it was so-so. But yes it is very different from the one everybody knows.

I honestly don't recall the name of the town, but it was on I-70 about half between Cinncinnati & Indianapolis...

We need around a dozen Waffle Houses in the Western New York area!

It was only gonna work if I could charge NYC diner prices. Otherwise it would be packed and losing money.

Is there any updates at all when WH is gonna move into Michigan, I was promised to have WH in michigan by 2007, well its 2006 and nothing has happened yet.

You'd have to check with Waffle House to see whether any franchise owner has plans to open any stores in Michigan.

Don't know how reliable their information is, but the manager at one of the Toledo (Ohio) Waffle Houses told me that the chain will be expaning into Michigan sometime in 2006. I hope he's right; I live in Metro Detroit, and my husband and I occasionally make the trip to Toledo for some Waffle House chow.

I-70 runs between Columbus and Indianapolis
I-74 runs between Cincinnati and Indianapolis

They have a special section, usually one seat at the bar, for folks w/ your affliction. Seriously, I have walked into WH's and the cigarette smoke was a fog at chest level. My usual request at that time is "coffee to go, please".

when waffle house expands into michigan from what I have been told, they will be going up US23 and I75, I dont think they have future plans for Western,Mi or Ft Wayne,In area.
