We're doing Xmas in Williamsburg with my MIL and we have reservations at Christina Campbell's for the day itself but we are looking for an Xmas eve place and any other suggestions (Pitt's has been duly noted). MIL likes steaks & seafood, we'll eat anything good Thanks in advance!

I wish I had some suggestions for you. Williamsburg is a beautiful place at any time of the year, and Christmas is really special. And this year, it's REALLY COLD. Merry Christmas!!

You can't really miss eating in the historic area on Christmas, as the historic district is really done up gorgeously. And of the tavern choices I would agree with Christiana Campbell's. However, if you can squeeze in one more really wonderful dining option DEFINITELY try The Trellis restaurant on Duke of Gloucester Street (just before you enter into the historic area). It's really a bit above a typical RF eatery but you will say it's one of the best restaurants you've ever tried. My daughter went to W & M for 4 yrs and my wife and I got to try most of the better choices in W-burg. I'm jealous that you're going to be there and I'm not! You'll love it.

I can't give any specific recommendations. But, if you click on the "search" link, you'll find at least one or two other threads on Williamsburg that should get you the info you want.

"The Fat Canary" is a newer restaurant and the food and service is wonderful..........a perfect place for Christmas Eve.

You really can't beat dining at one of the taverns during the Christmas season; the bonfires, and carollers, and decorations are the Burg at its best.

If you want something fancy, the Regency Room at the Williamsburg Inn never fails to impress. I've only brunched there and it's been wonderful. I imagine that a Christmas Eve dinner there would be spectacular.

Ice cream (I'm not crazy; I love ice cream in Winter) - Can't beat the Queen Anne Dairy Snack over on 2nd Street! Good "roadside stand" style burgers there, too.

If you're up for a little drive, I highly recommend driving to the free ferry at Jamestown and crossing the river to get to the Surrey House (see the Sterns' review at http://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Overview.aspx?RefID=226). Great place, great ham, and great peanut pie. If you go for lunch and have time, I'd also recommend poking around the area to see Smithfield (some good "local" eateries in that town, too) and Bacon's Castle.

The Regency Room at the Williamsburg Inn can be a sensational place but we have found it less than great on holidays. We were there this past Easter Sunday and it was not as nice as it usually is. The service was harried and they had a very limited menu. I would check before making reservations there for Christmas Eve and find out how busy they are that evening and if the menu is limited.

I second the Trellis. He invented the desert "Death by Chocolate". If you like chocolate, don't split the desert, you will be sorry. Order one for each. You will thank me.

To my way of thinking, everthing about Williamsburg is spectacular. We've been there several times and the most wonderful time was over Christmas. But the experience is awesome to me at any time of the year.

Enjoy the time you spend there.
