Giants take game 1 11-7. What a 5th inning! A new WS record is set, 3 doubles in the 1st 3 at bats. Game should have ended at 11-5 though.

MikeS.- The player you mentioned with three doubles in his first three at bats is Giant 2nd baseman Freddy Sanchez. This guy is one of the real good guys in sports and he is very easy to root for. He was born with a club foot and endured several operations and years of physical therapy. Besides that, he also overcame years of playing for the Pirates. I like both teams, but Go Giants!!!

Personally, I like the owner Nolan Ryan. I saw him pitch about 25 years ago in Kansas City. He struck Bo Jackson out and Bo took his bat and broke it over his head (he had a helmet on). I also liked Bo Jackson. I believ at the time they called him 90 Nolan. Very few pitchers at that time threw consistantly at 90 MPH. I noticed last evening that almost every pitch was in excess of 90 MPH. Nolan is a great owner and I have to be for Texas. Paul E. Smith Knoxville, TN

Paul- The great thing is, either the Rangers are going to get their first title in franchise history or the Giants will get their first one since moving to the Bay in 1958. Either way, it is nice to see some new blood.

Brad, he still has that great arm, but watching him run to the ball is painful. He looks like he is running in quicksand.

Here in NY a Fox-Cablevision dispute has left us without a fox channel, and without the world series, or NFC football.

Tony, that is terrible!! Although I don't root for the NFC I would be pissed that I couldn't get the games. (cable?) As for the W. S., I am rooting for the S.F. Giants as they are in the N.L. West and I am originally from Colorado. GO GIANTS!!!!! David O.

One of the things I don't miss about moving out of the Tri-State area is having to deal with Cablevision...those guys make Enron look good! Not sure who is the real villain in this case. Fox sounds like they want more than double what they were getting. It also seems this is a test case and if fox gets cablevision to crumble, they are going to put the squeeze on other satellite and cable companies. On the other hand, cablevision is saying how evil Fox is because they won't submit to an arbitrators decision, yet cablevision and the NFL network have been at a deadlock for a few years now, primarily because cablevision won't submit the case to arbitration. Bottom line is the fans of sports and other shows are losing out on what they paid for while a bunch of wealthy people lock horns.

Where did you people get the idea that the New York Baseball Giants are located in San Fransisco? The team out there is the minor league Seals. How's you like that three-run homer Mel Ott knocked into the left field stands last night? Go Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tying together the posts on the Fox/Cablevision dispute, the World Series, and the NY Giants, here's an interesting article from the NY Times the other day about former NY Giants fans in NY City who are shut out of seeing thier old favorite team. Old Brooklyn Dodger fans seem to get all the attention in NY but as the article shows, there are still plenty of Giants fans around in NY too. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/27/nyregion/27giantsfans.html?_r=1&scp=1&sq=polo%20grounds&st=cse

I don't recall any of the Dimaggios playing for Oakland. I remember Vince, Joe and Dom playing for the Seals. And of course Vince was the smart one as he played for the Giants, at least for a time.

Giants go up 2-0. Go Giants. Hated them in NY, me being from Brooklyn, don't ya know, but once the pennant race is over I revert to a National League fan. As for Ott hitting one into the left field seats, Michael. He musta swung late because his right leg was still up in the air and he didn't pull the ball----plus the fact I could throw a ball into the left field seats from home. My son and I were at the Polo Grounds the day Jimmy Piersall hit his 100th home run, he was a Mighty Met that glorious year of 1962. He turned around and ran the bases backward to celebrate. A character for sure. He was released the following day--Casey Stengel didn't want competition on the team for biggest nut case. The point of the Piersall story is he swung late, hit a high pop into right field which caught the first row of the overhanging upper-deck seats. The right fielder was standing under the ball with his glove extended waiting for it to be an easy out.

You know Ancient One, the reason I was such a lousy baseball player was my insistence on batting left and kicking. I was OK if I batted right and kicked, but I was too stupid to stop trying to be like my hero. But that's OK. Bobby Bober tried to bat like his hero, Stan Musial, and Musial was the only one who could actually hit pitched balls from that cramped up stance of his. I did have a good steak at his St. Louis restaurant though, and he wasn't all scrunched up as if he had a bat in his hands. EDIT: I was just thinking, ancient one, that there are probably very few, if any, people here who know what we're talking about.

Yes Michael I agree---few indeed. They don't know what they missed. Great story about Stan the Man and John McAvoy a good friend of mine. John was national sales manager of Sealy Mattress Co. He visited his guys in St Louis and the boss of that territory took him to dinner at Musial's Restaurant. John was introduced to Stan and they had a little chat. A few months later John was waiting to board a flight at O'Hare and he heard a guy call him ---he turned and there was Stan Musial saying hello. Not many good guys like him around today. Speaking of Cardinals---Ducky Medwick was traded to Brooklyn in 35 or 36 and I was at a game where he went 0-4. I waited outside with the other kids and asked him for his autograph---he told me what I could do to myself. First time I ever heard that expression, but not the last.

Boy, oh ancient one, you bring back memories. I had a Ducky Medwick Louisville Slugger. I remember it was a 34, just the right size for me at the time. And there's another thing lots won't understand -- a 34. Hint kids, it has nothing to do with a year.

Ducky was the last guy in the National League to win the triple crown---that was in the 30's so over 70 years ago. Then he got beaned and pulled away from the plate on high inside pitchs. It made him a sucker for the curve---the Cards (Branch Rickey) traded him to the last place Dodgers. He never was a star again. Michael---my mother died at age 96, and in cleaning out the attic I found my first fielders mitt. A flat piece of leather with 5 fingers tied together with leather shoe lace things----forgot the name. No pocket------ Stamped into the bottom was "Ducky Medwick Model" and his signature. We, Sir, are brothers under the skin. You got his bat, I got his mitt. And never the twain shall meet.
