World's Best Pizza

A friend of mine hear that Fodor's named Cozet Pizza in Cozet, VA the Best Pizza in the world. We went down to Cozet, a small town just west of Charlottesville, and tried it out. The place is so small and so popular we had to make reservations. The pizza WAS very good, I'm not sure if it is the world's best, I haven't been to Italy to try the pizza there among other places, but it was a nice idea for a road trip. Has anyone here ever heard of Cozet Pizza?

I dont see how they could come with Worlds Best on any food item. Tastes vary so much, that something good to one person may be crap to another. And with pizza, there are so many variations, such as thick or thin crust, the sauces (sweet or tomatoey), types of onions, types of meats, etc etc etc... The best of belongs to ones personal tastes.

Unless one has tried the 3,765,910,362 variations of any food item, how can something be declared the "world's best". Perhaps there's a little village in Ethiopia on the 2nd Tuesday following the first full moon when the village chef prepares the "world's best" pizza and how would Fodor's find that out? Now if the reviewer had stated that Cozet's had made his/her favorite pizza, it might make him/her seem less an unknowing know-it-all a**! Unless, of course, we're talkin' Arby's

Don't know about World's Best...but Laura's Pizza in Roswell, GA, serves a great Chicago style pizza. Best I've tasted around Atlanta and light years beyond the pizza chains. A lot of people here like Mellow Mushroom. Not bad...but gotta give the edge to Laura's. Peppinas in the down river area South of Detroit was great while it was open. Alas...it is no more.

One problem, the name of the town and pizza place is Crozet not Cozet. I have been there, it is very good.

It does say "With up to 35 toppings to choose from, including seasonal items such as snow peas and asparagus spears, this out-of-the-way restaurant 12 mi west of Charlottesville is renowned for having some of Virginia's best pizza." I've also heard that their pizza is a bit pricey. $20 for a large house special pizza. Here's the prices (sans toppings). A small (12 inch) pizza starts at $11.50, a medium (14 inch) is $12.50, a large (16 inch) $13.50 -- and that's just for bread and cheese. Topping add-ons vary in price from $1.75-$2.50. I'm still going for a road trip to this place. Hopefully right after the Holidays.

Wait a minute: I found some info from the Albemarl county tourist website: Crozet's Pizza was chosen in National Geographic’s driving guides to America as Best Pizza in the World. Fodor's did once call it, the Best in USA. But the Fodor's website makes no mention of this, and doesn't even list it as a Fodor's pick. But, Fodor's publishes LOTS of books, so who knows.

Hello All, Scorereader, if you are going to hit Crozet for a pizza, drop by Harrisonburg and visit Luigui's. They make a beer-battered pizza that is so good. 9 inch pizza around $5.25 and toppings about $1.00. They also have so many speciality pizzas plus some great side dishes. I have been up for about 24 hours or so and am not able to good justice to this place. They also have poker nights to get students in. I work nights, but if you schedule to be around Harrisonburg on a Saturday night, I would try to be your host if it can be arranged. Take Care, Fieldthistle

In the same area of the world - Albemarle County - there is an italian place my husband and I discovered this summer. Casella's, 1107 Emmet Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903 (434) 979-7011 I had a pizza slice with spinach and eggplant. The crust was crispy and tasty. The eggplant was thin and crispy. The spinach had more garlic than a human being should be allowed! Right now this is the pizza by which I am measuring all others. Husband's calamari was tasty, too. Place looks like it is probably a student handout - especially during football season. Does anyone else know this place? Cathy

There is actually a place in Escondido with the name "World's Best Pizza". I haven't been (and don't plan to) since reading an article about the change of ownership. They now also serve Salvadoran food. I would try a Salvadoran restaurant if one were available. But, I can't see going to places that "specialize" in such diverse cuisines. I'll wait 'til they decide what kind of food they really want to serve...

Went to Crozet Pizza last Saturday for lunch. For a few minutes we were the only customers in the place. They start taking reservations at 3. No question, they make a very good pizza, and put lots of care and good ingredients into each pie, but World's Best. Not in my book. But I surely would have been a regular customer if they were there when I worked in Crozet over 30 years ago.

I wouldn't presume to say it's the world's best, but the best pizza I know of is Vinny's in Nashville. I've been to all the big names in Chicago, New York and elsewhere. The guys at Vinny's are perfectionists. If you ask for Italian sausage, they ask if you want it spicy, medium, mild or garlic. Until Bushie and I found Vinny's, I never would have believed you could get a great pizza in Tennessee.

Don't you think there are too many different tastes to name a best pizza? It's like trying to name the best chocolate or best bread.

Alright, I'll bite--what goes on a banana pizza, why did you have to go to Ireland to get them, how big are they that you ate ten in one hour, and, finally, why would you consume 6 through 10 if you got bored at 5? Just asking.

I think you can have "the best" pizza title in a certain (regional) style or in a city or county, but "the world" is a bit silly. Pizza in Italy is nothing like what you get in New York.

I crave Mt Dew---so your NOT from Tampa Fla like it says on your profile?---and by medium pizza--do you mean like a 12 or 13 inch circle?---seems 10 of those would be make you a "competive eating" contest winner possibilty for sure!! I know im a BIG BOY and i seriously doubt i could eat three medium pizzas in a hour--or WANT to--in my youth, no problem--but not today.
