Worst meal ever yesterday! Sun, 02/10/08 8:25 AM (permalink)
My fiance and I ate at Country Kitchen yesterday, where I experienced THE worst french fries I have ever eaten! Apparently they cook them in the "healthy" oil, which I will avoid like the plague in the future! On top of this, they were limp. My burger was also the WORST I have ever had (supposed to be on a garlic parmesan chibata bun, but came on a plain bun) How in the world can a restaurant screw up a burger and fries? Not sure, but they mastered it! And if that wasn't enough, my boyfriend got food poisoning from either his scrambled eggs or chicken fried steak!! This has got to be one of the WORST chains ever!

Wow. I looked at a map and it doesn't seem you have very many choices out there.

    Good luck.

Think of it this way: It's a day you'll never forget.

You got that right! Restaurants in general are few and far between up here in the woods (which incidentally has wind chills of about 40 below zero even as I type this!!)The big thing for us up here is to take a 3 hour road trip (long weekend) to Green Bay for some "real" food!!! LOL

Lindsey, I hit Green Bay every year to visit the frozen tundra and take in a Packer game..

I always hit Krolls for butter burgers and Frank and Pat's for pizza.

I would appreciate it if you have some favs of yours you would like to share.

I used to eat at Country Kitchen relatively often when I lived in Missouri. The one there wasn't bad, although items could be really hit or miss. Their salad bar was decent, as were country style meals like meatloaf.

We stopped at a Country Kitchen somewhere in western Illinois a few years ago, didn't have many options other than McD and BK. SO ordered one of their skillet meals and it was served frozen in the middle. Management didn't seem too concerned and did nothing, not even offer to heat. We paid the bill, walked out with the food left un-eaten and went to McD. BTW, we have a day time high of 2 below right now, hate to think what the wind chill is. At least the sun is out!

I was in Green Bay last February and feel for you.

But I'm in Fort Worth this year, and it is a beautiful 70 degree, sunny day today. (and was yesterday as well)

I woke up this morning to minus 12 degrees real, not wind chill. I started the propane generator in my RV for its monthly exercise but could not get the diesel engine started. So I guess I am stuck in this frigid north country.

At least we have some decent restaurants nearby.

hey, welcome to Roadfood, Lindsey, and sorry about your horrible burger & fries.

I've found plenty of places that know how to screw up a burger and fries...
sometimes the meat is'nt good quality, sometimes the fries are barely cooked, etc, etc, etc...

I hate the unsatisfying feeling of having a bad restaurant meal... I'll usually try to send it back, but sometimes the replacement does'nt agree with me, either. Then I just give up, as I don't want to strike out .
I usually stop somewhere else after, to eat again, just to make up for the bad experience..
(then at least it becomes a "wash"; it cancels out the bad one)

I guess it will really make you appreciate your excursions to Green Bay.
And at least you have a fiance to keep you warm during those -40 degree days!

Huh... I sympathize. Somebody recently didn't like my complaint about "home fries". I like CRISP fried potatoes, whether you call them "french" fries or whatever. I don't like limp and greasy. Yuck.
There is a place I like for breakfast in Ojai, CA (50 miles or so north of Los Angeles), and they do really great cubes of fried potato, nicely browned and all crisped up. Yum.
I have plenty of worst meal memories, the one that comes to mind first was breakfast at a crummy "needle" hotel in Honolulu. I LOVE the state of Hawaii, I just HATE Honolulu. What a dump.
I used to be really picky, and found that the safest thing to order was a grilled cheese sandwich. You REALLY have to be a jackass "chef" to mess that up. But it can be done. I like RYE bread, but I have to write the word on a napkin, or they hear "white" bread. I like American cheese, so I have to spell that out, too, lest I get cheddar. I always ask now for fries, bacon, WELL DONE.
Good luck with the weather there.
