Don't knock those Crab Chips til you tried them!! I have also tried pickled watermelon rind. It is OK. I have a tube of anchovy paste in my fridge right now. I've always wanted to try huitlacoche, but I don't think I want to try it from a can  . And I think the mint ginger ale sounds kinda good....

After seeing the "Pork brains in milk gravy" I don't think I will ever eat again. Perhaps some Beefamato juice would settle my stomach.

I love Utz crab chips. I usually pour old bay on my regular Lays to get a reasonable facsimile. Pork brains...blecch, and Lone Star? Maybe Clamato would be more soothing

Looks like a lot of Southern delicacies there...the brains, the chips (yum), the pickled watermelon rinds. The corn mushrooms frightened me the most.

I used to love those vienna sausages in the Marines. They are a top seller at the on base C stores. I never ate them in garrison, but in the field they were gold. My tummy churns at the thought of eating one now, but I'd bet that they are popular in Iraq. They may have been the main dish, along with a drop of General McIlanny's hot sauce, at some in field Marine Corps birthday parties yesterday.

Scrambled eggs and CALF brains was a Saturday Morning regular brunch item in our home. I don't know why it was such a staple. Just last year we saw Brain Sandwiches on the menu at the corner cafe in Henderson, KY during the Blues and BBQ Festival there. Brains served that way are another of the 'regional' things centered on St Louis, I believe.

I like watermelon rind pickles. We have recipes for the homemade ones and there is lady at the Charlotte Farmers Market that sells these by the jars. Also, at our favorite Steak House up on the Lake, they feature Watermelon Rind Pickles on their salad bar and they are very popular. I remember my Mom buying one of those whole chickens in a can when I was young, it was by Sweet Sue, but I don't remember how she used it. Treet or that other canned meat reminds me of mystery meat day in high school cafeterias. I remember having a sandwich at a party where someone had made a spread from potted meat and sandwich relish. My Grandmother used to fry tripe-she would bread it and fry it. I just remember that it was tough to chew. I've never tried kraut juice, but I remember about twenty years ago, it was a fad at our local skating rink, for kids to ask for a cup of pickle juice over crushed ice.

I always have some Viennies in my tackle box. I didn;t know they had a jalapeno version. I'll be looking for it. And that Treet? I have a couple of cans in my cubbard. Yummmm!

Without a doubt, the crab chips are awesome. I like watermelon pickle, even made some once, that was a lot of work. Lonestar, I was introduced to the beefmato combination in Dallas. I was visiting my sister at the time & went to one of the numerous tea rooms you find there, it was October & a bit chilly, they offered beefmato warm & it was quite good. It went very nicely with my sandwhich.

The Little Rebel Drive-in in Statesville, NC sold a special soft drink called a "Witch Doctor". Served in a jumbo milkshake cup over crushed ice, it was a mixture of all of the soft drinks on their soda fountain (Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Cheerwine, Grape, Orange, and Root Beer) mixed with a big slug of sweet pickle juice. A sweet pickle spear was stuck in top as a stirrer. It didn't have a dominant flavor, but was a really ugly muddy brown color.

You know, grasshoppers. The restaurant preps the little critters "for consumption by soaking them overnight in chile powder and lime juice," the newspaper said, "then sun-drying them until the critters are snappier than a cracker." It was in Spanish, so don't know all of what it said.

I returned recently from a road trip to Maine and brought back, among other things (lobster included), Pickled Fiddleheads (Stanchfield Farms) and a can of the Belle of Maine Dandelion Greens... both were more than palatable and went well with my pork brains and eggs... mmmmm... pork brains... so good with eggs, but I like them straight from the can!

I've never had pickled fiddleheads, but fresh ones are lovely. They taste a bit like asparagus. I've also had the Crab Chips, and while I don't care for them, I know some people who love them. The rest of the stuff, well, no thanks.!

Actually, I have had most of what is on that website and most I liked. The exception is that I have not done canned tripe, brains, pig lips, or anything with an insect in it. One word about the dried seafood, it is an Asian delicacy and most is yummy. I recommend as well the shredded/instant jellyfish. I was introduced to a Chinese dim sum salad of shreded jellyfish (reconstituted) with garlic chives, soy, and sesame oil. It is really good and have made it at home. The jellyfish is not gelatinous when rehydrated. It tastes like chewy/cruncy sea scallops! Many guests have braved it and not only survived, but enjoyed the experience. Guess that none of you are gonna want to eat at my house, huh?

Kiowa1, Belle Of Maine also cans fiddlehead ferns. Their fame actually comes from the fact that they are the only commercial canner of dandelion greens in the world. Their greens are grown on a six-acre-or-so patch right beside the factory.
