Would you eat insects?

I have been to countries that consume all kinds of insects.  I confess that I have never tried them.  I saw the in Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico.  Mostly fried and spiced but also many other ways.  The UN believes that food sustainability will have to rely on insects due to their availability, nutrition and various other things.  I saw folks in South America and Central America eating them like French fries.  They apparently enjoyed them as they were gulping them down.

I know that in the USA, many folks are consuming cicada's and preparing them many different ways.  It appears that we will have billions in abundance very soon.

I know that most Roadfood.com folks will turn up their nose to this and I probably will also but food availability in the future is in doubt for the masses.

I have only eaten one type of insect in my life. That was the worm in the bottom of the bottle of mescal. I think the idea is that by the time you've gone through the whole bottle of mescal, you're game for anything. Now the next day, when you say to yourself "I ate a WHAT?".............

Ohhhh Ed--you are BRAVE!!  Tequila is my drink of choice, but I've never eaten the worm.  I don't care what power it's supposed to have. " />

And no, I would not eat bugs.  On purpose, anyway.  I have accidently eaten live ants.

I wonder if folks would eat them if they were hungry enough or if that the only thing available.  I saw folks in the countries listed above where all kinds of food was available and they still ate them by the handful.

I saw those in giant piles in Mexico.  I sorta wish I had tried them.  Folks would buy them by the pound.

Andrew Zimmern not withstanding, personally, no I wouldn't eat insects, on purpose.
However when she was very small, my daughter used to lure ants to our sidewalk by pouring Koolaid on a spot, then sh would gobble them up as fast as they would come. She said they tasted "like crawly lemonade.!"

I never thought that their were numerous restaurants  in the USA serving crickets and other insects but in the attached below list just a few.  The Mexican grasshoppers mentioned in a post above might be the only one I could tolerate.

Two billion people of the world do.  You could be in the minority if you do not.  I have not and have no plans to but it cannot be out of the question.  Some of the worlds greatest chefs now feature them.

That sounds like a relative of Ozzy Osbourne who once snorted a line of ants in a one up mans ship with another Big Hair Rock Star.

Back in the late 80's when the cicadas were out, Snappy Tomato Pizza was just entering into the area.  They had a few run ins on delivery with the swarms and ever since their catchy jingle has ever since been reworded.

I had stir fried locusts in Hong Kong.  Guts were squeezed out and re-filled with a chili paste.  They were pretty dang tasty.  Crunchy on the outside, chili/garlicy goodness on the inside.  Went back for more.
