My wife and I decided to compete in our first XTERRA last weekend and we mixed in a few Roadfooder's suggestions as well. For those of you who don't know what an XTERRA is, it is an off-road triathlon involving a swim in the intercoasal water way (1200 meters), a 20-mile Mountain Bike race on very tough off-raod terrain and finally a 10K (6.2 mile) off-road run with water crossings, mud holes and bushwacking through dense shrubs.
Most people who enter these races decide to race them solo (alone) but Erinn and I entered as a Relay Team (called Bluemaxx Racing, of course) with a good friend from Ft. Myers doing the swimming leg for us. I raced the Mountian Bike section and my wife, Erinn finished up with the run. Given that it was our first time doing one of these, our expectations were not too high, although I must admit I knew we had a pretty good team assembled. In the end, everything went very well and we ended up 3rd Overall and 2nd in Class. Definitely a great result for a bunch of first-timers in XTERRA. We are planning to do a few more over the summer but I will post results when we are done with them. Of course, anyone is welcome to check out our website to see where we will be and suggest (or meet us at) any roadfood joints along the way.
http://www.bluemaxxracing.com/schedule.htm As for our RF experiences, I must thank Ellen4641 for her suggestion from a recent post about her travels to S. Florida. In order to load up on carbs the night before the race, we decided to have dinner at Napoli's in Hollywood, FL. Boy, was that a treat! I have not had better Spagetti Cabonara (my fav italian dish) anywhere in Florida! My wife had their lasagna and it was very home made and very tasty! Thanks Ellen! You are a big reason we did so well
On the way home, we decided to stop by Lum's Family Restaurant in Davie, FL. (

Anyways, a very successful weekend by Bluemaxx Racing and now we have to start planning our multiple trips this summer for car racing, mountain bike racing and now XTERRA Races. Hopefully, we get to meet a few of you on the road!
