I remember a place in Denevr we used to hit when we were starving aand near broke close to payday. It was a white on whit formica joint. The deal back in 77 was a huge blue ceramic bowl. It was filled to the top with steamed white rice and topped with1 thin slice of what appeared to be fatty brisket on top. the counter was alden with soy sauce, pickled ginger and other similar condiments. Always .99 per serving with a free refill(no secnds on the meat) Except for basic fountain sodas and an Americanized side salad(iceberg, cuke and cherry tom-with coice of dressing) that was the menu. The counter area was always packed on the lunch hour. I dont know if they were 24 hours but they were open for the bar rush at denvers 2AM close. The only one I ever saw was on Colfax in Capitol Hill there in Denver. Somewhere aroun Logan! Has anyone else ever eaten there or where there other locations ? Id do it again for old time sake. britt I was lazy. I did Google and it does exist in a more lavish version than I recall. I only recall the one choice. http://www.bloglander.com/cheapeats/2006/11/21/yoshinoya-beef-bowl/

I had been living over in Snowmass and hurt my eye and had to get some surgery at St. Lukes I think it was...anyway, I was kind of down and out and remember hocking a sterling silver concho hat band at a pawn shop right near the bowl, and went over and had some lunch. Tasted fantastic and I too would like to relive that moment. This was also around 1977!

I've been to the ones in Japan, they were open late after the bars closed and were cheap and pretty good

Harley, Your comment took me back to my time in Japan (Hokkaido 1961-63). Many a night, after the bars shut down we could be found in little cafes with limited menus. At 3AM a half-dozen Yaki-Tori Sticks with a bowl of fried rice with all sorts of small chunks of 'God-Knows What' stirred in, then a couple of eggs scrambled into the rice as it finished was the dish of choice for us 'poor guys.... or if we had the money, a large order of Suki-Yaki (Skee-Yaki) went for about 250 Yen. It was very filling and absolutely delicious! (BTW it was 360 Yen to the Dollar back in those days). Thanks for dusting off some old memories!

Been a couple of times in the Los Angeles area. I don't understand paying for a ton of rice and a little bit of meat on top. Maybe it's for the steamed vegies?

I was in Sendai for a month about 8 years ago, I loved it there and would go back anytime.
