You are a REAL Roadfooder if...............

You are a real Roadfooder if: You plan a roadtrip by the restaurants that you can go to along certain routes You make a special trip just to eat at a restaurant you have read about. You keep a list (mental or otherwise) of all the great Roadfood places you have enjoyed. You NEVER go to a chain unless you absolutely have NO choice. You do not get excited over a fast food chain offering something new on their menu. I will now blindfold myself and stand up against a white wall waiting for those shots to be fired

You are passing through a new area, and instead of stopping at the "safe" McDs, you take a chance on a dumpy little eatery because there are cars in the lot.

You need a REAL hand-dipped chocolate milkshake, and know that going to McWendy's just won't cut it.

Even if your trip isn't to a Roadfood destination, you still plan out how many Roadfood places you can hit along your route. Or alter your route to hit those destinations.....

You stop a cop and ask them for their favorite breakfast or burger joint. You go in search for the best homemade pie in town. You seek out every 50's diner. You look for every "off the beaten path" place to eat. You get your camera and take pictures of people eating. This can problematic, especially if those being photographed are part of the witness protection program, ex cons, or people who are uncomfortable with strangers. After a meal in a restaurant, you have at least 5 stains on your shirt. You have a great collection of menus and matchbooks. When you enter a restaurant, everyone working there knows you by your first name. Some restaurants have named a sandwich or entree after you. If a restaurant is short staffed and very busy, you start taking orders and go into the kitchen to help cook. When you make a reservation in a restautant, you give the name "Michael Stern" and ask for the best table in the place.

I cant remember a time when i stopped at place that "called me in" that it wasa a good thing!

To continue with Bushie's train of thought- eating while not even hungry----- well what do you do when you order the food, cause you just have to, and you don't want to waste it after you have had your fill? If you are driving on a road, and on vacation- not all hotels have fridges, let alone ovens. If like me, you take out series of bags of leftovers, and look at them when arriving at the hotel. Then the boyfriend says- "don't look at me." A real dilemma! So many places to stop at... so little room in the tummy!

...while painfully hungry, you opt out of the McWendy King's for lunch, and drive the next 6 hours because you know of a place that has a great meatloaf special for dinner.

.....If you take photo's of your food before eating it (or during the meal) to share with your Roadfoodie buddies. If the sign at the gas station says Broasted Chicken, and you get a few pieces to munch on as you head down the road. If a restaurant is out of sight of the highway with a narrow drive-entrance...you miss it the first time you pass, and you are willing to turn around and try again...in the rain. If your overnight stopping place is selected for the availability of a good meal, rather than the distance or Motel location. If you select your meal stop because the place is named after you, your Mother, your Uncle, Your Dog, or Your 5th grade girl-friend. (example- Bowens Restaurant (AR), Bowen's Island (SC),McDuffies (Owensboro,KY) and Magdalena's Cafe (Corydon IN).

LOL I love it. However, I will be going to what I consider a really great Roadfood restaurant on Wednesday night where I will be "properly dressed". That is Bern Steak House in Tampa..........worlds apart from another great Roadfood steakhouse called "Doe's Eat Place" where I can wear my stained blouse and dig into a wonderful steak. Both places are one of a kind and serve outstanding food and offer a memorable experience/

Ate in a local place for lunch here in Long Beach called Mama Mia's. It sure is nice when the owner comes up, puts his hand on your shoulder and asks how you are. Can't get that in an Olive Garden!

You are a real roadfooder when you go to a country where you do not speak the language and ditch the guide book. Then, go to a crowded outdoor food stall, watch what people order, and without knowing what the hell it is point to the same stuff. OR... you find the local university and follow a group of students to where they eat and likewise point to the same stuff that they are eating. No real idea what we had but it was cheap and great!

Now that would be an interesting experience... Follow a group of American College Students around in a typical college town and eat what they eat. I'll bet the followers would decide that the main dish across America is Pizza and Beer....and Mickie Dee's !!

When I lived in Texas a "hole in the wall" joint usually equated to EXCELLENT tex-mex or barbarque. How I miss them quote:Originally posted by carlton pierre ....if you look at a "joint" on the side of a road and think " a real dive" or "a hole in the wall" so I think I better stop there and try it. carl reitz

It's a childhood thing I can't shake. No if this "screwdriver" kicks in soon enough I may have to send the wife back tonight as well. Dennis in Cary

Hey Bush, That rag of a Hawaiian shirt you use for roadtrips, weddings and funerals sure gives an "air of class" to our foodie get-togethers. I guess one can say If you have worn the roadfood uniform to a meal away from home, you are a real Foodie!

You are a REAL Roadfooder if..... You read all the reviews and forums here... Travel down the road and have something spark your memory and be able to turn around and investigate on your own! (Then maybe report your findings so more memories may be sparked).
