No real order to these, but these are burgers that I regularly crave: 1. Cheeseburger, Miller's Bar, Dearborn, MI: 2. Jucy Lucy, Matt's Bar, Minneapolis, MN: 3. Big One with Cheddar, The Chuck Box, Tempe, AZ: 4. Double Burger, Animal Style, In-N-Out Burger (I find cheese plus animal style to be overkill, so I get this instead of a Double-Double): 5. Cheeseburger, Shake Shack, Madison Square Park More burger pics here.

I have had in & out, and it reminded me of 5 guys. must try it on my next visit to NYC I really like Shake Shack, but it's not that different from In-N-Out to be honest. The biggest difference is that the do the "smash into the grill" cooking technique, similar to Steak n Shake, giving the burger a nice crisp around the edges (somehow, however, Shake Shack does it without drying out the burger). I also had this burger there (The Stack Attack, which is a cheeseburger topped with their veggie burger, which is a a deep-fried cheese-stuff portabello). It was actually really good, although it was a serious fat bomb: The lines at Shake Shack, however, can be unholy, especially on a nice weekend day. When I was last in NYC (May 1st), the line at Shake Shack was almost 2 hours long. Good burgers, but never in a million years worth that kind of wait.

And these aren't top 5 burger, but top 10: 6. Cheeseburger, Pearl's Phat Burgers, Mill Valley, CA 7. Cheeseborger, Billy Goat Tavern, Chicago, IL 8. Jalapeno Cheeseburger, Mad Madeline's, Temecula, CA (although the SO's Hatch Chile burger was better): 9. Apple Pan Burger, Apple Pan, Los Angeles, CA (although next time I'm telling them to go easy on the relish!) 10. Sliders. Bates Hamburger, Livonia, MI

I thought In&out were ok for what it is but nothing like people rave about. Thanks for the feedback! Jay

I'm going to go with these in no particular order. Sharon's Burgers, Kingsport, Tn Steak N Shake Five Guys Tommy's in L.A. 40 years ago at least since I ate there. Could be more nostalgia then anything else. Wicked Burger, Port St. Lucie, Fl Unfortunately seems to headed downhill while trying to expand menu to suit every possible taste. Should have stuck to the basics IMO.

Aw hell, I was just in Temecula on Sunday, looking for a trough to slop in. I ended up in Murietta at an indy pizza place and had some mediocre pie.

Actually, let me add Debra T's in Poughkeepsie, NY to that. It's an overbearingly cute ice cream parlor, but they make a surprisingly beefy burger (beefy as in taste, not size).
