Your favorite baseball noshes!

Well, spring training baseball season is almost upon us. Woo-hoo! I'm just nosy to see what everyone's favorite ballpark foods are. It'll be interesting to see what you guys have found at major and minor league parks around the country that reflect regional specialties; or just classic favorites, beyond the usual hot dog and beer (not that there's anything wrong with that!). Here in Tampa Bay we offer (typically) sno-cones, fresh lemonade, and lots of BBQ and Cuban/Spanish food. I wish we'd get some more Northern influences, that would be my preference - cheesesteaks, pies, etc. Oh well. I'm just waiting for funnel cakes!

You will always find Knishes at Yankee and Shea Stadium. Kosher Hot Dogs will there too.. Look for the Clam Chowder vendor at Fenway....Good for those cold days and nights at the beginning of the season. Of course you'll find a crabcake sandwich at Camden Yards and a Bratwurst at Miller Park. Doughboys with Cinamon Sugar or Powdered Sugar are served at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket RI. I had Pierogis at Jacobs Field, and the Minor league park in Scranton PA. I also understand you can find them at PNC Park in Pittsburgh which also has a Primanti Bros Vendor. I also had a good bbq pork sandwich at Turner Field in Atlanta. Also how can I forget Pork Rolls at Trenton's minor league park in New Jersey...

The Columbus Clippers (AAA Yankee farm team in the International League) has the usual stuff, but several times a season they'll have Dime-A-Dog nite, and they run White Castle nights, too.

My friend was quite upset because the same vendor advertised cheesesteaks, but they ran out in the middle of the game!

Biggest regional speciality at Pac Bell Park (now SBC Park) in San Francisco is the garlic fries. Gilroy (2 hours south of San Francisco) is the self-proclaimed "garlic capital of the world." While I can't verify that, I can confirm that it's great garlic, and is used liberally on the garlic fries. They are wonderful. Just don't plan on any kissy-face-stuff for about 3 days after you've eaten them.

Whoa whoa whoa....hold the phone here. The prettiest spring training ballpark, now or ever, is Dodgertown in Vero Beach (though I do not have a pic to post! ). At said park, you can also get an official Dodger Dog...and listen to Vin Scully broadcast the games on local Vero Beach radio. Steve

I grew up going to the old, dirt- based, Forbes Field in Pittsburgh with my dad. Nothing will ever taste as good to me in a baseball park as Oscar Meyer hot dogs, Isaly's chipped ham sammiches and Orange Crush. The Boys of Summer just aren't the same without sitting up close, watching Roberto Clemente, Manny SanGuillen(sp), Pop Stargell, Kent Tekulve et al, and listening to gravelly Bob Prince. Those were truly the glory days.

While I am a Devil Rays fan, I do sneak in with a good friend of mine to take in a Phillies spring training game up in Clearwater. While we are there, we have a cheesesteak right after the third inning. The purveyor of these is a place from Dunedin called La Spada's. They are excellent. And for a whole cheesesteak sub, they only charge $5.00. Not bad considering what Vince charges for food at Tropicana Field. Give it a try sometime. Especially with the new field being built at Drew St. and US 19. I have already taken a tour of the new stadium and it is going to be fantastic. No, it does not look out at Tampa Bay, but the other amenities make up for it. John

Ribdog. LaSpada is the real McCoy. I believe they are originally from Camden, NJ. I've had their italian cold cut sub (hoagie) from the location in Dunedin. I've also had one from another location in Fort Lauderdale just off A1A and Commercial Blvd.

i'm not sure if this is something particular to detroit, but i love the malt cups that the vendors come around selling at games.....they are not particularly malty and taste more like wood from the spoon you get to eat them with, but they taste like being 10 years old.... now if only the tigers were as enjoyable as a malt cup....here's hoping for a season that's not entirely a train wreck. go get 'em, tigers! aim

I just thought of some more. I had a beef on weck at Dunn Tire Park in Buffalo, I saw a coney island vendor at Comerica Park in Detroit, but was too full from my Greektown dinner to try it. I also had a fried twinkie at Norfolk's ballpark and a home plate in Rochester which was the ballpark's version of a Nick Tahou garbage plate. I had the toasted ravioli at Busch Stadium and did not think they were very good, however I did have a good chicken spiedie sandwich where the Binghamtom Mets play and the coney dogs with skyline chili at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati weren't too bad either, however the frito pie at Southwestern Bell ballpark in Oklahoma City was way too salty and I couldn't finish it. I'm sure I'll think of more!
