Your favorite dog is crap

Hello! Glad I got your attention. I haven't posted much, but after years of reading here there is a fault too frequently overlooked. In a proper stand/restaurant/cart the quality of the dog is second to it's service. If theestablishment chooses a fine product and serves it according to their methods well, then we all relish the end result. But by purchasing the same fine product and poorly managing how the staff, or worse yet, the owners serve dogs or other menu items can result in crap on a bun. So many of fellow Roadfood fans lament the lack of a product here or there, I find the real crime is not lack of food availibility but of good consistant service to the only people who count; the paying customer.

Your post placement is kind of off if you feel the product means nothing. You could say bad service ruins an experience in any type of food. And the response is...no kidding. Any particular experience got you riled?

Sorry, no particular problem; I just feel that all good dogs work well in almost every dog situation. A great chili cheese dog isn't comprimised if you choose a Vienna over a Best Kosher. Does that make sense?

Both posts make sense alone, but I don't get your second post after reading your first. The second really is confusing the first. Are you more concerned with smiling service or do you want people to upgrade thei product?

No, all good dogs are good dogs. The service is what makes a good dog great.

I would say a good chili sauce and mustard makes it great, but whatever. Hoffman serves his posts with a growl.

As long as it's natural casing Wimmer's from Nebraska it doesn't matter. Last time I ate a dog was in LeMars, Iowa a few years ago. I don't even like hot dogs but these are excellent. Just needs a good bun and a little mustard.

If you don't start with a quality dog, it doesn't matter what you do with it. And if you are discerning when it comes to a particular brand, then your chili cheese dog will be compromised if you switch brands. As for service, we're talking hot dogs here. Just serve it to me hot enough and not off of one of those roller grills. I don't even care if you smile.

The greatest service in the world wont a make crappie hot dog taste good and I remember getting faboulous steamed dogs back home that i can taste 40 yrs later, from the grouchiest old &%$##@ so and so that I ever met. Bad service can ruin a great sit down meal fast---but a great dog is a great dog!

Some of the best ones I ever had were plain old Roessler's and Hummel's heated in a pan of water on a hot plate in the back of a small grocery store named Red's. We'd sneak out of Junior High School at lunch and go to Red's back room where he would, quite illeglly, sell us hotdogs for a dime apiece. Red was a really rotten old man with Seagram's Seven breath who treated us to a constant flow of profanity, occasionally throwning things at us when annoyed, which was just about all the time.

MH, did you ever live in Clinton? tiki, when did a hot dog become a "sit down meal?"

I'm from New Haven. We lived in Hamden, Orange and Bethany, too, and we spent summers at the beach in Milford. I've been in Clinton many times, as well as the rest of the Connecticut shore.

He, of course, was the attempting robber. As for me, I don't drink Seagrams Seven and do not throw things other than balls during a sporting activity involving same.
