Your food-related New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year a little early to all Roadfooders. I was considering a few things I'll try to do in 2010 which I think are probably worth doing. Post yours if you care to and maybe we'll check back around June and see how we're doing. 1. Eat Better. More nuts, fruit and vegetables. Less booze. 2. Cook more, and cook for guests. Invite some friends for a home cooked dinner more frequently. 3. Try at least two local restaurants I've never been to before. 4. Lose 30 pounds. Settle for 20. 5. Do more of the food shopping myself.

Good list. I don't drink, so number 1C is not a problem. If I accepted number 4 and lost 20-30 pounds, I would be anorexic, but I do need to exercise to stay in shape and avoid gaining weight. I guess what I would add to the list is 6. Resolve to be more diligent in finding other Roadfooders when on business trips. I did so a few times in 2009, with great company, excellent food, and much better companionship and memories than those from eating in front of the hotel TV or my laptop computer. However, on a few trips I could have planned better and contacted folks, and will do better in 2010. 7. Keep resolutions shorter (see number 6 above).

More adventurous cooking - for years been clipping recipes from magazines and newspapers, but tend to cook the same recipes over and over again. Cook, and eat more fish and vegetables

Wow, unfortuately my resolutions are all the opposite. But I am trying to make the most of this week. It was 45 and sunny today so I grilled country style spare ribs and chicken thighs and legs on my Weber!

Sounds good. I've not fired up my Weber in a couple of months. Cooking for just myself it's more bother than it's worth.

1. I have to realize that I have diabetes and eat accordingly. 2. Going to try to do more cooking on my Big Green Egg and hopefully lose weight by just eating healthier. 3. Track down that Kogi truck and ask them if they can leave out the cilantro.

1. Cook more with fresh fruits & vegetables in season. 2. Use farm grown meat & poultry. 3. Support local growers & farmers. 4. Since I am retiring March 31st, I resolve to cook from scratch as much as possible(back to to the days when I was a stay at home mom). 5. Cook & bake more with my grandchildren.

I've been dieting for 8 years now...dropped over 100 lbs, therefore: Eat less "rabbit food" Don't be so anal and calorie conscious Enjoy your meals and food - always Don't waste space on bad food Don't ever regret eating something EAT SUGAR !!! ...one thing I can never do though is "waste" calories on soda...just can't do it. I've actually always like the taste of diet soda...sue me.

I usually keep my New Year's food resolutions simple: Try as many food places I've never before been to as possible. This year so far I've eaten at or taken out from 57 new places, with one more Day Trip (to Reading PA and back) scheduled for Wednesday. So I'll be in the low 60's by year end. If I can match that next year it will be another good food year.

I thought there was nothing I wanted to change but now that I've read the other posts: I agree with BelleReve - more adventurous cooking is what I'm after - I like trying new ingredients and ways of cooking - most of the time it doesn't turn out like I expected but sometimes I run across a winner and it's worth the time & trouble.

At this time last year, I had a mere forty-five Roadfood-reviewed restaurants to my credit, but in the past twelve months I've managed to bring that up to one hundred and twenty-eight places. My roadfood resolution for 2010 is to hit #200 by the end of the year ( assuming that my digestive system holds out that long! ) Update: 205 Roadfood-reviewed places as of July 1st ( anybody got any Rolaids? )

<<Get over my shyness about taking pictures in hispanic restaurants so I can post some reviews here. >> Forget even about the pictures, I'm often totally self concious being the only English speaking person, just trying to place an order at the counter. I took French an High School and College, which is basically useless in NY/NJ (Heck, it was pretty useless the one time I was in France too...). If I had to do it all over again I'd take Spanish so I can do a better job of communicating in these places.

1) Lose weight. I need to lose a lot, but I'm not focused on numbers so much as getting off my duff and getting started ... plus keeping the weight off once I start. 2) Eat more Roadfood in my area (Upstate SC). Maybe even write some reviews for this site when I do. 3) Attend the Charleston Eat N' Greet next month. Though that maybe in jeopardy, since my truck decided to blow a head gasket yesterday. We'll see. 4) Lose the weight I gain from attending the Charleston Eat N' Greet. :) 5) Cook for myself more.

I can just speak enough spanish to order, etc. The problem is, ah, those worried about immigration status, and/or general suspicion of people taking pictures. Not in the big places, but in the mami y papi places. Really what I need is an escort.

Don't know if it counts. Little Italian joint, been in business forever. Not great, too much fried. 4. -13. 5. Getting better. How are yours going? Doesn't hurt to revisit your goals.

How are yours going? Doesn't hurt to revisit your goals. We're still being adventurous - late this afternoon we put a small chicken on the grill with a new rub and a different spritzer to keep it moist. Wrapped some sliced potatoes, onions, olive oil and steak seasoning in foil and put it on there - then made a salad of fresh from the garden cucumbers, onions & tomatoes - threw in an avocado and dressed it with sun dried tomato viniagrette.

Than sounds great baileys! And, I live cucumbers and avacado in salad. My Buffalo Bay Corn appatiser was a BIG hit last NYRS but I am a bit behind on my Grilled Elote Bay Corn recipe for the upcoming New Years. :~( It has just been tooo hot here in Texas for me to want to grill out. I do have a Delongi indoor grill but... Joe

It took a while to get started, but in the last month I've been doing well. I started shopping weekly at a farmer's market close to home and trying new recipes geared around seasonable produce. This didn't come about because of the new year's resolution, but it was more a combination of needing to lose weight and the summer heat. I'm eating lighter, more fish, chicken and vegetables cooked simply, but with a lot of flavor using garlic, fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices. When eating out, it's been fairly easy to order chicken or fish dishes broiled or grilled. Besides feeling better, it's given me a new perspective on cooking - I want more recipes that show how to get maximum flavor though herbs and spices and if you know of any specific ones, please post.
