Here's a nice ditty by James Taylor, great song from his One Man  Dog LP of the early 70s, my wife's favorite by him

Chili Dog

Make my bed out of Wonder Bread
Spread some mustard upon my head
I don't want no onions or sauerkraut, Mamma
Hold on to the bun baby, work it on out.
I'm a chili dog
I guess you guessed by now
Sure 'nuf I'm a chili dog, baby (you and me)
Delicious!
Don't get jealous
Better not up and get over zealous (watch out now y'all).
Come on now fellas,
Pass me down the relish.
Don't read no Ann Landers
Just can't feed me no Colonel Sanders
I ain't trying to fool us
Don't bring home no Orange Julius.
Gotta have--one more time--get on down again
Woh, woh, chili dog, baby
Yes indeed, I want a chili dog, yeh
Talkin' about stone delicious
Good for you too!

The Halos were an American doo wop group from The Bronx.
The group formed with members Al Cleveland, J.R. Bailey, Harold Johnson, and Arthur Crier (bass). Phil Johnson replaced J.R. Bailey shortly after the recording of "Nag". (Bailey later joined The Cadillacs).
The group got its start as session musicians, backing up vocalists recorded by producer Morty Craft. Their first single, "L-O-V-E", was released in 1960 under the name The Craftys. Their second release, "Nag", became a hit, reaching #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1961.[1] Further singles were not successful, but the group continued as a studio ensemble, appearing on the Phil Spector-produced tunes "Pretty Little Angel Eyes" by Curtis Lee and "Every Breath I Take" by Gene Pitney, as well as Barry Mann's Who Put the Bomp.
Member Arthur Crier's son, Sabu Crier, was later a member of GQ, and his grandson is Keith Sweat.[2]
    Nag

    The Halos

    (Crier)

    Oh baby you're a nag (nag,naggedy nag)

    You're a nag,you're a nag, you're a nage

Would you go do this, and go do that?

    Nag

You're always tellin' me a what to do

I just can't seem to get a rid of you

You order me around just like a slave

You're gonna send me to an early grave

Would you go fix the bacon,go for the cokes

"And rush down to the butcher shop and buy me a roast" (spoken)

When is the naggin ever gonna stop?

You always seem to be a blowin your top

One of these days I'm gonna loose my mind

Jump out the window then I'll feel real fine

If you go do this and go do that

And wash up all the dishes and don't talk back

When I married you,you were so sweet

Now you give me the bread and take all the meat (1)

You're always screamin' a hollerin' loud

I'm gonna buy me a ticket to the nearest cloud

I don't know what to do you make me mad

And when I leave this place I'll sure be glad (2)

You're workin' me a just a just a like a horse I guess you think you musta

be my boss With a go do this and go do that, NAG

    repeat 1 & 2

The Coasters' forerunners were The Robins, a Los Angeles based rhythm and blues group, which included Bobby Nunn and Carl Gardner in 1954-1955. The original Coasters' members, formed in October 1955, were African-Americans Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Bobby Nunn, Leon Hughes (who was substituted for by Young Jessie on a couple of their early Los Angeles recordings), and guitarist Adolph Jacobs. Jacobs left the group in 1959. [1]
The songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller had started Spark Records, and in 1955 produced "Smokey Joe's Cafe" for The Robins (their 5th single with Leiber-Stoller). The record was popular enough that Atlantic Records offered Leiber and Stoller an independent production contract to produce The Robins for the Atlantic label. Only two of The Robins -- Gardner and Nunn -- were willing to make the move to Atlantic, recording their first songs in the same studio as The Robins had done (Master Recorders). In late 1957 the group moved to New York and replaced Nunn and Hughes with Cornelius Gunter and Will "Dub" Jones. The new quartet was from then on stationed in New York (although all had Los Angeles roots).

This is an example of why these wikis and wapedia are not reliable, they are just quick references but should not be taken as definitive  One of the most important members of the Robins is not mentioned, Richard Berry who wrote "Louie, Louie was a part of the Robins, he is the lead singer on Riot in Cell Block Number 9 and I was Framed among others, I inherited my father's original Spark 45rpms of those songs and others. My dad was pals with most of the Robins, the Coasters and dozens of other L A based groups as he was a former trumpeter.

Richard Berry is heard with a teenage Etta James of the mid-1950s, the big hit Roll With me Henry, Berry is Henry's voice. Richard then started up the group The Pharoahs and wrote the song Louie, Louie, which was a hit in So Cal and the Pacific region before it faded away into obscurity until the early 60s when 2 Seattle based groups got a hold of it, Paul Revere and The Raiders first and then The Kingsmen whose version was so horrendous that the lyrics were not decipherable causing a huge controversey that had the FBI investigate the lyrics and many stations banning the song, in reality a calypso-RnB ditty with innocent lyrics butchered by the lead singer of the Kingsmen

"You Don't Miss Your Water" is a soul song and the debut single written and recorded by American singer William Bell. It was released by Stax Records in 1961. It is Bell's signature song and best known recording.

                    The Byrds

The song was covered by The Byrds on their 1968 album Sweetheart of the Rodeo.

First of all I take my hat off to your list of music, not so much because of the pertinent titles to this thread but because of the artists chosen, shows an appreciation and knowledge of music few posses  You are obvious a music person, perhaps a musician or like me, son of a musician and raised in a household where music, where most music styles were part of upbringing in the 1950s and 60s then carried on as adults.

A side bar for the less passionate fans, you include several entries by the true king and father of rock n roll, Louis Jordan, who my father gigged with several times. Louis even was rapping and rhyming stories and was popular on Soundies, the first music videos, Wynone Harris' Keep on Churnin til the butter Comes was the typical double entendre RnB or jump blues song of the era, I loved 'em, as pre-teens my brother, sister and me would giggle at the lyrics we heard the grown folks play on the record player at our house parties after they sent us to bed, My sister liked the Dinah Washington songs about the dentist and the TV man

A final note, Louis Armstrong's Struttin with some BBQ evokes images of walking around eating a plate of some 'cue but in reality, I recall my father telling us that in 1920s jargon that meant walking along with a fine loooking gal on your arm and not about barbeque, his wife wrote it for Pops. A lot of music language may be dated or have a different meaning, Minnie the Moocher and Kicking the Gong Around by Cab Calloway are just 2 more examples.

I think it was Gram Parsons who wrote "You don't miss your water til your well runs dry"

Chris Smither " No Love Today" ( aka the vegetable song)

The Cheapest Kind  by  Greg Brown
He has another one about  "the taste of summer, mama put it all in jars"

The 60-70's super group  Moby Grape
                                                                                 The Lemon Pipers

" One More Cup Of Coffee"  by  Emmylou Harris

I recall Moby Grape perfectly, they were not quite as well known as other S F Bay area groups, rock, funk or Latin rock but theywere a quality band. Our local underground album tracks, free form FM station would play them. Sadly that kind of innovative programming where rock of all types, were played side by side with RnB, jazz, funk, fusion, whatever-if it was good it was played, then by the mid 70s the corporations took over the previously neglected FM stations and killed free form and of course, the disco craze took hold and we hit rock bottom

To this day the S F Bay area remains one of the best and most fertile musical grounds, in all types of music, in the world

                                          Hey Jonjax,

check out www.strictlybluegrass.com for an upcoming San Fran music fest.

As for Moby Grape, Jerry Miller was in Cleveland just a few weeks ago touring with a few other SF bands.
