<<Michael Hoffman! out of that million eating establishments, you don't have one eating establishment that you frequent more often than another. A diner, were everyone knows your name. Pity. >>

Not pity. I gotta go along with Michael on this one. I've lived in Scotch Plains for 12 years now, and I've eaten, maybe, in 3 of the dining places, once each. It's just all typical non-interesting suburban upscale or downscale or fast food, none of which interests me much.

Plus I'm always trying new places so I really don't think I've ever been a "regular" anywhere. The closest I ever came was in the late 70's/early 80's when I was more or less a regular at Max's Kansas City in New York because it was next door to where I worked. I *think* it was the only place, ever, where the bartender or any server knew my name.

Funny, I use to go to Max's when I LIVED in Kansas City. They had the best prime rib sandwich that I have ever had.  I didn't know that they had a location in NYC.
It really is a shame that you don't have a place where you can relax and enjoy a good meal and a friendly environment when you don't feel like cooking at home.

That is great , felix4067; where ever you enjoy eating out is fine. I will probably make Grand Rapids a destination this summer and your choices sound excellent.

Let me know whereabout in town you'll be staying, and I can give you a better list.  Those are kinda all over the map.

Thanks for the offer Felix4067 but  I really don't want a list. I am more interested in peoples home town favorite.(Or near home town).
I like to hear what makes a place special. Is it the food, the service or the prices or even the feeling as you walk through the door that you are recognized and appreciated. To me, this is what makes eating out important.

Let me tell you about Sal & Phil's in Jackson, MS. Their food is New Orleans style... po'boys, grilled fish, fried fish mainly... and very good. The atmosphere is very casual and friendly. Once you've been there you are a regular. They even remember my food problems (no gluten) and are very carreful to adhere to the safe list.

Oh!  I didn't mean just a list of what's there! I'm really familiar with most places around here, and since it's a pretty big town it depends on where you are, how mobile you are, and how far you feel like going what I would recommend.  That's all I meant.  You can look in the phone book for a list of what's here.

Here in East Greenwich RI and Rhode Island in general it would be any local independent Italian Restaurant, other than that it would be any local independent Italian Restaurant and besides that it would any local independent Italian Restaurant and if that weren't enough, it would be any local independent Italian Restaurant.

Charlexis in near Sand Hill, MS.  Gumbo, Fried Crab Claws, Tuna, Fried Green Tomatoes, Catfish, are just a few of the treats in this out of town spot.  Prices are wonderful, presentation of the meal is part of the attraction, and everything down to the salad dressing is from scratch.

                    Hi Got Tea
That sounds great. Are they open for lunch? How about week ends? Someone finally named a place I might actually get to!

Wandering Jew that Tuscan restaurant looked wonderful but kind of upscale for a roadfood joint. I might have to dress up.
Got Tea- lucky you, Charlexis in near Sand Hill, MS has a menu that would make my day. My kind of place. Although some days a Sonic would be just fine. I do prefer a Checkers for economy lunch. Seems to be one hamburger joint I have my radar up for when in Florida.

I took my ex girlfriend to Sienna for the first time last spring on her birthday, it was my first visit and was every bit as good as you can imagine. You don't really have to dress up- khaki's and a polo shirt are fine.

I thought you were referring to "eating places"  in general with no specific references to roadfood so I just went with that.

Be that as it may roadfood doesn't really fly here in East Greenwich.

You are right Wandering Jew, I was referring to eating places in general but also looking in my wallet. I guess I am not amberdextrous.
Your choice of places did sound wonderful. And since you were sharing it with a girlfriend even more special. Did you go dutch? LOL

Thanks.  I visit East Greenwich a lot, and am always looking for new places (I usually end up at Jigger's or Frank and John from Italy)
