a favorite movie on now !!

Thanksgiving Morning and I just stumbled onto one of my favorite movies. The turkey cooking will have to wait because Laurel and Hardy in "Babes in Toyland" or "The March of the Wooden Soldiers" is on. Haven't seen it in years and years---since my kids were little and they had to watch it every year. They didn't know it but I looked forward to it also. L&H at their best--------a fun movie. They don't make 'em like that any more----too bad.

Not a movie but I was watching the Macy parade and they featured the current Broadway musical "Xanadu". I was reminded of the orignal "Xanadu" which featured Olivia Newton John and ELO. I googled it and found this for your enjoyment if you like that type of thing. I did. I wondered if this was the beginning of ELO???? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m1UWSD-FaA Paul E. Many "rock fans" thought that ELO sold out by contributing to the movie and collaborating with the "the likes" of Olivia Newton John

I always watched "It's a Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Story" and "Scrooge" (with Albert Finney) growing up as well as the Rankin-Bass Rudolph, Frosty, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town that they don't seem to air anymore.

I loooove Home for the Holidays. We had our habitual Thanksgiving day movie marathon yesterday, and the picks were: Find Me Guilty with Vin Diesel (pretty great), Casablanca (my partner had never seen it and fell in love), and V for Vendetta (she liked it better than I did and my son loved it).

We started with the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special and finished up last night with Hitchcock's "The Birds" That is the scariest movie ever to me. I can just see that being real!

Ancient Mariner, for years when I was a child my siblings and I watched that Laurel and Hardy movie on Christmas Eve afternoon, followed by the original "Miracle on 34th Street," both on WPIX in New York. I still make time to watch "Miracle on 34th Street" every year even though my own children have never been interested enough to watch all the way through.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation has become a tradition for me. I still laugh out loud even though I've seen it dozens of times. I'm with you, BillyBoy, I still love Santa Claus is coming to town, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Merry Christmas Charlie Brown. Although they still come on local TV, it's easier to own them and dig them out once a year when convenient. DD

A Charlie Brown Christmas is going to be played in its restored and remastered version this Tuesday? night, with everything that had been cut during the '80s to its original state.

I just saw "Leaves of Grass" on Redbox DVD. Sometimes on Redbox I don't even get my dollars worth, but this time I got more. Critics loved it but I never even saw it advertised at my local multiplex. If you liked "American Beauty", you will like "Leaves of Grass"

Any version of A Christmas Carol and of course NL's Christmas Vacation. Although not a big fan of the Ernest character, I really like Ernest Saves Christmas. Some off beat Christmas movies we like in my house, Die Hard, Gremlins, The Long Kiss Goodnight and Mixed Nuts.

Just saw another Redbox video, 9th Company, a Russian made film about the Soviet war in Afghanistan. I didn't expect much, but it was good. Had my war happened, I may well have been a company commander with an understrength reserve regiment tasked with defending Norway. We expected to face the guys (paratroopers) depicted in the movie. You have seen the movie if you saw Porkchop Hill, Hamburger Hill, or Siege of Firebase Gloria. What was interesting to me was the depth of leadership show by the Russians in this true story. I was always taught that the Soviets, while well armed and powerful, had poor/no leadership after the first few layers. We were better because in Marine Corps tradition, the last Private First Class is ready to take command should the need arise. In 9th Company, the officers are killed early, and the junior enlisted men step up to the job, and endure, only to find that the war is over and they are going home

We saw "Lincoln Lawyer" over the weekend. It is a really good movie but will be just as good on DVD. We saw "The Tourist" on DVD, and it was not a very good movie. The Tourist would have been much better on the big screen because of the beautiful scenery.
