best hot dogs in wny Wed, 10/26/05 3:27 PM (permalink)
I notice that many reviews are from western new york. I'm new to this site, and don't have the time to search thru it all, but if Ted's Famous Hot Dogs has not been reviewed, it's worth the trip. I grew up just outside of Buffalo and every trip home now is not complete without at least one trip to Ted's. They only use Salen's (Sahlen's?) natural casing dogs, apparently only available in western NY ; they have the greatest thinnest cut curly fries served best with cider vinegatr. Sounds gross till you try it, and it is pretty gross on any other fries!, Other 'must-haves' are wings from Blasdell Pizza ( the original store on South Park in Blasdell, not the others), Beef on Weck from any local pub, Swiss Chalet chicken restaurants (the one by Transit Town Mall is good) and Oscars Steamers (steamed clams in a signature broth) from Oscar's on Rte 5 in Hamburg....all to die for!!!

When we went to our new Wegman's in the Baltimore area for the first time (right on opening day) and looked for our beloved Hoffman brand hot dogs and coneys from Syracuse. They had not come in yet so the deli clerk told us to try some Shahen's from Buffalo and some Zeigler's from Rochester. We loved both kinds............New York State has some great hot dogs! Incidentally, whenever we took a trip to Niagara Falls, a stop at Ted's was a must.

      Hi reodawn,
Here is one review of Ted's:

Many of us have written about Ted's and most of us agree with you. If you have time, try a search. You'll see that you are with the majority.

          Chez,
We haven't made it over to the new Wegman's yet in Hunt Valley although we have made it to Chipotle a time or two. We just didn't want to fight those opening day crowds.

I was relieved to hear that they will be carrying items that they stock up there like Sahlens.

Next time we're over on York Rd. to go to Andy Nelson's BBQ it will be a must stop. I've been a big fan of Wegman's from my visits up to the Western NY area in my travels.

We make it over to York Rd. a little more often now that they have moved the Pennyslvania Dutch Market that was in Westminster over there.
