Roadfooders! Please beware Pats of Hendersons in Lake Charles, LA on the 1-10 and Bates House of Turkey on the road from Birmingham/Montgomery, AL - Mobile. Both eaterys are awful awful and after reading roadfood recommendations of both places, patronized both on a recent roadtrip. I wrote reviews on yelp.com, so feel free to check them out; but under no circumstances would I ever eat at either one again. I'd rather have Waffle House.

I don't know who owns Pat's of Henderson in Lake Charles, LA but I have eaten at Pat's Fisherman's Wharf Restaurant on Henderson Levee Road in Breaux Bridge, LA. There is a link to the Lake Charles restaurant at the bottom of the Breaux Bridge restaurant's website: http://patsfishermanswharf.com/ but I don't know what the connection is. I had the Fisherman Wharf's fried crawfish dinner during crawfish season and it was fabulous.

If i used the cheapest ingredients, like Waffle House does, i could still cook a better breakfast than they do...any time.

DocChuck, take a drive over to Frederick. There are two there! I never heard of a "Southern boy" who did not know what a Waffle House is.

I've had many a great meal at Waffle House. It helps that you can watch them cook it in front of you, although it is not for the squeamish. Double scattered and smoothered for me with a pecan waffle on the side. BTW their sugar free syrup is great!

I have eaten at Pats many times on the way home from the casinos and have never had a bad meal. But like anything else that is made by humans they may have had a bad day. Joe
