anyone familiar with BOARS HEAD hot dogs.

they are a bit costly, but from what i hear from a friend, they are top shelf dogs.
i haven't had a chance to try them yet, but will start looking for a distributor.

Boars Head are good I hear... But personally I'd stick with a regional product. Keeps the local economy rolling, not to mention unique! But if you want to go outside your area, try Kogels once.. Though I think they only sell them in Michigan and Northern Indiana and Ohio, they make a darn tasty natural casing dog...

The Boar's Head natural casing dogs are excellent. I think they're among the very best available.

This brings up that often discussed dilemma...what if your regional brand grows, as did Boars Head. Would you abandon them in favor of a different local or regional brand?

Boar's Head makes an excellent natural casing dog. I know of one cart (Dante's Inferno) and some hot dog stands in the Seattle area using Boar's Head natural casing. You may want to check out these two Portland hot dog stands: http://wickedweenie.com and www.zachsshack.net Wicked Weenie uses Zenners Quality Sausages(a local company) http://www.zennerssausage.com and Zach's uses Red Hot Chicago www.redhotchicago.com( a Chicago based hot dog company).

If you choose Zenners, ask for their marketing materials: banners, metal signs, umbrellas, posters, counter cards, menu boards, aprons, shirts, and hats. Branding with a reputable/local company is a great marketing tactic which will boost your sales. Most of these items will be freebees and bring a professional look to any cart.

Boar's Head All-Beef Natural Casing Dogs are outstanding. Grill them, turning several times, on a lightly buttered surface over low-to-medium heat until just before they "pop." A very "New York" flavor and texture akin to Papaya King or Nathan's. - Rusty

I am always in favor of supporting local products & businesses...used to always buy Hank & Charlie wieners (Hank & Charlie's was the oldest butcher shop in Milwaukee 'till they closed down a couple of weeks ago). But good food is good food...Boar's Head makes great all beef/natural casing dogs!
