My Wife and I will be there to tour Sonneburg Gardens and take the boat trip. Where should we eat dinner?

You'd probably have a better time in Canandaigua, NY.  (say can-an-day-gwah, not cana-day-gwah, BTW)

Niagara:  If you are sensitive to the spelling / pronunciation of "Canandaigua" -- you must be driven up a wall by most people who spell / pronounce "Niagara"  "Niagra".

Now, Class, we'll work n Poughkeepsie and Schenectady...

Look for a recent thread by Scoreader - I think he stayed in Canandaigua  and mentioned some places. While you are up there try uto get over to Keuka and Seneca Lakes to visit the wineries - Herman Wiemer, Constantine Frank are musts.

        Cheers, John

GeoNit- Actually, you get used to it from the tourists. We just say "Da Falls".

John -  Then we'll move on to Skaneateles.

How about Shawangunk (as in mountains)? Pronounced Shawangum unless you are a rock climber then it's called "The Gunks".

              Cheers, John

Yes, my wife and I spent a week on Canandaigua Lake. We didn't end up eating out too much, but if this is a romantic NY/Finger Lake getaway, I highly suggest the Taste of NY Restaurant at the NYS Wine and Culinary Center: http://www.nywcc.com/taste/taste_of_NY_lounge12.php

We enjoyed our Sonnenberg Gardens tour, and we went to their wine tasting room and had lunch at their cafe. The lunch was ok - I remember the cold soup being particularly nice.

these places recommended to us, but didn't have time to go:
Rheinblick German Restaurant - I was told it was authentic german in a cosy setting.

Lock's Stock & Barrel - get the prime rib.

Hope that helps. When we were on the lake, we initially thought we'd hit all these roadfood places from Canadaigua to Naples to Penn Yan to Hammondsport, but I bought so many of my CNY favorites at Wegman's, I essentially forced myself to eat-in with all those groceries. So, I'm no expert on Canadaigua restaurants - BUT I do recommend the Taste of NY Restaurant. We LOVED the NYS Wine and Culinary Center.

Don't know when you're going (I may be too late) but Eric's Office at the north end of town is hard to beat. It's not for the hard-of-hearing 'cuz it gets packed and loud but the food has always been good!
