Are you just going to Clemson? Email me if you come all the way to Charleston.

It's been years since I was in Clemson but a few places that I can remember include the Square in Pendleton - just south of Clemson. I think the place is called the Country Kettle. As I remember it, the Country Kettle is set up like a cafeteria and it serves some of the best southern cooking around. There's a line nearly out the door at lunch time so you'll know when you're there.

Second, Clemson produces some of the best ice cream around. I checked the University web site and it can be purchase at the student union but it can also be purchased in Pendelton at the Pendleton Café and Coffees Company. I'm told the Clemson Blue Cheese is also worth looking for.

Definitely get some Clemson ice cream.

Clemson is near and dear to my heart. I am ever so slowly working on finishing my English degree (Super Seniors rule!). Let's see: For Pizza, Todaro's Pizza downtown cannot be beat. The owner, Nick, is one of the nicest guys in the world. I crave their pizzas often and I work at a pretty good pizzeria myself.

For tacos, burritos and other Mexican goodies, Super Taco on 123 (in the same shopping center as Gold's Gym) is the place to go. Wonderful food at really cheap prices. Good for college wallets.

For a little more upscale dining, try Uptown Sushi downtown. Their sushi is delicious and the people are friendly too. It can be a little pricey, but great meals can be had inexpensively as well. I always get seaweed salad and miso, then loads and loads of sushi.

Come down 123 and turn onto 93. Cross over the bridge and you'll find The Riviera, a fantastic Greek and Turkish restaurant. Their gyros and moussaka are great. Actually, everything is great, burgers, pasta, everything. And, once you walk in the door, you're family.

Turn right off 123 onto 93 and you'll find Sardi's Den. Great ribs and the only place in town that serves alligator. I love alligator.

This being a college town, all the above have good beer on tap and bottled. Except for Super Taco, but the food there is so good, cheap, and plentiful that you won't care. But I can't write about Clemson without plugging Nick's, my favorite bar in the world. Great beers, friendly bartenders with wonderful taste in music. How often can you sip Old Devil while listening to Nick Lowe?

        Hope that helps.

          Dearfolk,
Improviser really hit the nail on the head when he (or is it she?) recommended Nick's in downtown Clemson. They carried Blind Man Ale there (before the brewery's demise); what a joy it was to be able to have an India Brown Ale or two, a sandwich, and a pint of Ben & Jerry's for dessert! I can't wait to return to sample their newest offerings!!
Paws Diner on U. S. 123 heading toward Seneca is a dependable diner-type place. There isn't a possessive there: there is no Paw; no Maw either! Clemson Tigers have Paws, y'understand.
The Athens Restaurant on the 123 Bypass in Seneca is a nicer upscale Greek-family-owned place.
Taking the business route into Seneca from the east side, The Time Drive-In is a fabulous short-order place. I highly recommend the onion rings. The place is on East First North Street, the old U. S. 123 route through town.
When you visit Clemson, be sure to have whatever products of Highland Brewing and French Broad Brewing are on draught at Nick's - or elsewhere. Those two local brewers from Asheville do a really good job.
Bon appetit, and - Hold That Tiger!
Amazingly Nearby, Ort. Carlton in Athens, Georgia.

            Ort.,

I am a he. And let me second your recommendation of all Highland Brewing products. Their Oatmeal Stout is delicious and their Gaelic Ale is mighty tasty as well. Hadn't heard of French Broad Brewing, I'll have to check them out.
