crab legs, what side dishes?
-

I plan to steam the frozen cooked legs for heat along with drawn butter and lemon wedges. Question, what side dishes do you suggest? My first thought is rice pilaf, carrots w/ broccoli and key lime pie for dessert. Other considerations please....... I would prefer the rice dish topped with an appropriate sauce. Ideas please......

Couscous and perhaps some grilled veggies (onions, zucchini, mushrooms and red or yellow peppers).

I have to tell you, when I do crab legs the only side dishes I have are there to hold the dead shells.

When we have crab legs, we have a small salad while waiting for the crab legs and then the only other thing we serve is lots of butter and plently of napkins

Linquine with a load of Garlic and crushed red pepper and parsley. I like to take the Crabmeat out and mix it with the pasta.A Salad with Oil & Vinegar would follow. I would add Boiled Red Blss Potaoes and Corn on the Cob to the list too.

I have done whole artichokes. This way it is an all finger food meal. I use a garlic aioli with lemon added for the chokes and lemon with a roasted garlic butter for the crab. But then again I just love dipping things in different sauces. This topic makes me wish I was back home in the PNW!

Dirty rice? Otherwise you could do plain ol rice with Old Bay sprinkled in before serving. Mmmmmm.

In central new york, it would be corn on the cob and salt potato's (quarter size potato's boiled in salt water and butter)

All of the ideas sound great. I like freshly steamed green beans with some freshly grated parmesan cheese-and a good loaf of crusty Italian bread...

I'm with Michael on this one, just a side of plates for the shells, BUT I have done them like a shrimp boil, with the potatoes, corn, garlic, etc. adding the crab legs at the end.

I think I'm going to have to make a run to the supermarket in the next couple of days. I hear king crab calling. And I just happen to have plenty of butter and a couple of lemons.

Thank you for the great suggestions. I've made note of all. Next, I will look over the list, see what we have available and choose. Thanks again.

We like to have corn on the cob, cole slaw or a chopped salad, and hot French bread with brie. We don't usually do dessert but if we do it would be key lime or lemon meringue pie. Whatever you choose will be good --- the crab legs will trump all! Andrea

Since we're essentially talking finger food, I stick with finger food. Corn on the cob, garlic/parmasean bread, steamed artichokes with dipping butter... you get the picture. Make it a utensil-free meal.
