hey anyone knows when they will be sellin crawfish post it here o.k. i think because of the hurricanes here they might not sell it this season.or maybe they will be scarced.

Lots of crawdads are imported from China (tail meat)...

It's likely my newly adopted mid-atlantic thought process, or brain washing...not sure which, but Old Bay and crawfish, what a pair!

If it's just for gumbo or the like WalMart sells Louisianna wild harvested tail meat in their frozen seafood section. If you're far from a source for fresh this might do.

This is the season for them in Louisiana. I enjoyed them at a restaurant in Alexandria, LA that Rick Flynn thought was great. It was on a lake out of Alexandria. I do not know the name of the restaurant but Rick does. Super crawdads or crawfish whatever you want to call them.

The crawfish in LA are fine, if a little scarce and pricey!! Just came back from there first of March!! Got them in S. Mississippi too!! The shrimp and oysters are awesome!! NOT hurt at all by Katrina!!

Greetings Mr. All Cajun, Right you are and I am scarced also. We use U-80 tailmeat which is relatively tough to come by but it's a versatile product that is used on three or four of our menu items. Our current inventory wholesale price is $7.75 per pound and I was quoted $18.95 per pound in 1000 lb drops to replace my inventory!! That's the price of lobster meat. The next size 80-100 is around $6.95 per pound but the supply may be limited. It seems some of the chains use the 100-150 size. You had better buy it when you can!!!

My "Louisiana Cookin'" magazine says the hurricane actually washed more seafood from the gulf closer to shore, so they actually are doing pretty well, contrary to expectations.

problem that Katrina caused was the shrimp boat fleets and oyster boats were wrecked. Pass Christian MS has a seafood restaurant open on the beach...its in a trailer....CNN did a special on it....the cook said all the shrimp and oysters were from west LA or Texas.....Bush Clinton Katrina fund is helping about 60 shrimp boats stranded inland by Katrina to be refloated strting this month in South Alabama....that's 10 month's of the boats not working...
