Does anyone check the Health Scores of th restaurants that they eat in? my family and I are tired of getting food posioning so I go on line to where they are posted and check. If they score 95 and above then we will eat in a restaurant. Lately many of the restaurants here in GA have had bad scores. Alot of it is that it is up to the manager to make sure the help keeps up with everything but also if the kitchen help does not comply and does not speark any English then there is a lack of communication and that is a big problem. Please let me know how ya'll deal with this.

One of our local papers prints the health inspection scores every few weeks ago. Most rate a 90 or above, but I have seen some with reports of rodents, filth, and roaches, with scores as low as 55. And many of these are national chain FF joints.

The local tv stations here do segments on them.KSAT12 is Behind the Kitchen Door, and WOAI,Channel 4
calls their's The Kitchen Cops.Channel 4 Also hands out a Blue Plate Award to local San Antonio area restaurants if they have consistent scores of 95 and above.
I think Channel 5 KENS5 does the same thing, but forget what it is called.
Of course being in a big hispanic, mainly mexican city, there a lot of people who can speak spanish, even whites.I guess Georgia managers need to take some spanish language classes. But what they teach in school is Castilian Spanish, the language of the spanish royal family and the official government.
Some of these workers you have may be from places other than Mexico,so the spanish might be somewhat different, plus there are also dialects as well.
Many people around here speak what my dad called PlattsDeutch,(sure I may have misspelled it)
and were mainly from the Rhineland. My dad spoke German with a Berlin accent, which he learned at home.

Doesn't really matter where the kitchen help is from really.Even those people who were born here in the good old USA can't even keep a kitchen clean. They get lazy and the manager doesn't get on them about it.

unfortunately our local health dept is a joke, and the rat infested places always score 90+

I check them occasionally, but to be perfectly honest, anywhere around here I go regularly I know the staff so well I don't bother. If I have time, and if I think of it, I'll check before going somewhere new, but usually not.

By the way, don't just look at the overall score. Make sure you look at WHAT they were marked down for. I'm much more likely to forgive "employee hand sink out of paper towels" than I am "meat stored above 40F" or "raw meat stored above vegetables", ya know?

Ditto. I worked for my college's food service, and we ALWAYS got docked on our health score for the "Grill" (student union eatery.) Nothing that we were doing wrong either! Things like the front door to the student union building (which wasn't our responsibility) was propped open one time, or the ceiling in the SU bathroom (also not our responsibility) wasn't clean, or they had a problem with us hand-washing all our dishes instead of having a machine... just stupid things. So we always had a score in the low 90s but we actually are a very clean, very food-safety-conscious place.
